It was before the time of most of us, but when I was a student at the University of California, I learned about the "Free Speech" movement at our historic, main campus in Berkley. A violent era, part of the whole 60's "Revolution" but liberals were MAD at the UC's for interfering in who spoke on campus. The liberals (rather violently) INSISTED that ALL - A.L.L. - be able to speak on the state owned and operated campus: communists, anarchists, anti-war - anyone, everyone, ALL positions (no matter how unpopular, no matter how much the wicked, evil Administration hated it - especially if those old, stupid, hateful Admins didn't want it) ALL must - MUST - be welcomed and MUST be able to speak their minds. It became the mantra of liberalism.

Yesterday, at that very school, the Republican Club invited a speaker. The libs (showing their true colors) violently protested - virtually shutting down the enormous school - to FORBID a speaker, shutting down the entire school because this conservative must be forbidden from being on campus, forbidden from speaking. "Free speech" my ______. Oh, it's SO typical of libs.....

Like so much of liberalism, it has nothing to do with what they say.... it's often the antithesis of what they say..... it's about THEIR power, THEIR voice, THEIR control. While holding themselves up as open minded, liberal, intelligent, open.

The people who protested for free speech in the 1960s are in the 70s now. They are not the people protesting against the Republican club's invited speaker. You've conflated periods in history that are separated by 50 years. Clear headed accurate thinking is needed. Not rabble rousing inaccuracy as is evident in your post.

Liberalism is not die in the 60's.... some of those "Free Speech" tie-dyed, sandal-wearing, boys and girls are now ruling the land. Liberalism cries, "Free speech" and then violently protests such speech, closing down UCBerkley to STOP free speech. It seem possible to me that as OBVIOUS as this is - libs will deny the OBVIOUS hypocrisy, the irony, the doublespeak.
