I have come to realize I need to avoid certain foods now that I'm aging or my body will resent me! The Christmas usual foods did not help me one bit. I know I can't handle onions but I had to put them in the sauce for the ravioli! I can't have chocolate due to allergies yet I ate some because it was so good, but it closed up my throat so I couldn't swallow very well. I didn't eat much of it so it's all good now! Back to depriving myself.

Does anyone else fight this? What foods are your triggers and what foods do you rely on to help? Do you take over the counter meds? How about apple cider vinegar?

I have it once in a while but I take pills that kill the heartburn, so when I feel it coming on I just take a pill

Hi Lam. Believe it or not, heartburn is a sign that you do not have enough acid in your stomach. Try this. 1/8 tsp sea salt in 8 oz water instead of an antacid (you too Bill). This will stimulate your acid producers and relieve your heartburn.

I'll try that!! I usually do the apple cider vinegar and it works right away but it's not working this month! Kind of frustrating.

Lam I use digestive enzymes and a probiotic. I rarely have digestive issues. You might want to try that as well. I have found that taking digestive enzymes with a glass of water helps back of the head headaches.

An excess of cashews will give me some digestive pain a day or so after the cashews are consumed. I eat them but in small quantities or mixed with other things like rice and chicken in a curry :)

They scoop gallstones out of your gallbladder. That is what causes a little bit of pain.

Are they plant based? I have allergies to a lot of plants so I have to be very careful when I try new things. Many healthy things aren't healthy for me :D

Oh, Then that is why you are hurting.:p You are missing an important digestive organ.

I think most are. I use the GNC brand, but there are others.

I'll have to read the packages.

Today is slightly better after not drinking any coffee since Sunday morning and avoiding some other foods that will aggravate things.

They say it is useful to fast twice a week. Five days with food as usual and two with none or very little.

Going without foods brings on heartburn :( I can't do that. It might be connected to the eating disorder I had as a teen.

THANKFULLY, I have a cast iron tummy - it seems to welcome ANYTHING I throw at it. I am aware that very likely won't be the case forever, lol....

I used to nibble on jalapenos! I could eat any type of spicy food and loved it. That changed this past year or so.

I get heartburn sometimes if I eat spicy foods or things like pizza right before bed, it hurts and then I cant sleep..though sometimes if I drink water it helps. I try not to eat anything before bed now..
