NASA's Fermi finds record-breaking binary in galaxy next door

Scientists have found the first gamma-ray binary in another galaxy and the most luminous one ever seen. The dual-star system, dubbed LMC P3, contains a massive star and a crushed stellar core that interact to produce a cyclic flood of gamma rays, the highest-energy form of light.

If it's the most luminous, what took them so long to find it????

Probably has to do mostly with the fact that the frequency of light emitted is at the high end of the EM spectrum. To find things like this you have to observe the right location and frequency. :D

If one can believe it. I don't trust anything NASA says. They've been caught in too many lies.

It has been confirmed using other telescopes by an international team of scientists. :)

Yes, the entire scientific community is part of a liberal conspiracy, and all that jazz. :D

Indeed. What's the ultimate aim of the great conspiracy?

To ensure elitism among the members of the scientific community, who are privy to the actual truths. I hear they have secret-handshake meetings where they openly laugh about the lies they have gotten the public to believe. Then they break out their 23rd century toys and have a party with their extraterrestrial colleagues.

That is but one example. A big one, but certainly not the only one. They still make mistakes, like the squirrel caught on their "Mars" photos. I web archived their stuff up that was still on their official site at the time.

Funding and agendas. With NASA, I believe it's primarily funding.
