It appears that the US isn't the only one dealing with illegals trying to enter the country!

About 2,000 migrants tried to enter the Channel Tunnel through the French terminal near Calais Monday night in an attempt to reach the United Kingdom, operator Eurotunnel said.

Some of the migrants were injured, Eurotunnel France spokesperson Cecile Carreras told CNN. French authorities and Eurotunnel personnel were able to enter the tunnel and intervene

The tunnel, also known as the Chunnel, runs 50 kilometers (31 miles) from a point near Calais, in northern France to Folkestone, in southeastern England.

Basically any country that is perceived (rightly or wrongly) to be generous to immigrants will have people trying all sorts of measures to get there.

Of course the fact that English is the de facto global language means that just about everywhere people will learn English and so it's not surprising that the combination of the perception of a place where immigrants can have a relatively easy life and already know enough of the language draws them.

One guy the other night walked through the tunnel 31 miles, and got caught and picked up near folkestone, I'm not to sure what they did with him. but when you think about it that is desperation, if you have to do that, They take terrible risks trying to get in here, under trucks near the wheels, on top of truck its just crazy the things people will do . They are now saying they are going to close the tunnel at night, but I cant see that happening they would loss to much money.

It would be interesting to know why they are so desperate to reach the UK. It's not as if continental Europe is a dangerous place.

I gather Australia has issues with people trying to get there by boat. Presumably the people trying to get there don't know just how brutal some areas of Australia can be.

I can only assume because of all the so called free health care and the benefit system we have, seems you can get money for most things, unless you actually live here, worked here and paid taxes, then its a different story trying to get any help for things.

Perhaps the UK is more generous with its benefits than continental Europe as a whole. There's obviously a reason why these people travel across Europe and risk their lives to get from France to England.
