How can people say that the god of Islam is the same as the God of Christianity?

There is one obvious similarity it is the same obvious similarity which Judaism has namely belief in only one God.

That is true, neither Judaism nor Islam teaches or believes in the Blessed Trinity. Islam accept the Lord Jesus Christ but not as God. Judaism completely rejects the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Roman Catholic Denomination seems quite enamored with Islam.... the Pope even kissed the Koran (but NOT the Augsburg or Westminster Confessions of Protestantism).

I suspect this KISS was because the modern RCC sees Islam and Christians as professing the same Triune God (with Christ as inseparably God and Man) and especially because modern RCC sees both Islam and Catholicism as teaching the same soteriology - that God helps us jump through all the necessary hoops so that we eventually merit heaven.

The only systems of beliefs that relate to the Holy Trinity and to the Lord Jesus Christ as God incarnate are Christian. All others, including both Islam and Judaism, do not hold to the truth about the Holy Trinity and to the truth about the Lord Jesus Christ as God incarnate.

How can people say that the god of Islam is the same as the God of Christianity?

Because they refer to the same singular benevolent merciful creator GOD, namely the God of Abraham.

Read the Quran and the bible and you will understand why.
