Did Microsoft work a miracle and suddenly make Windows 10 trackpads work better?

I've used a track pad under Windows XP and Windows 7 and my memory of the experience is that the trackpads were finicky and unresponsive and on the whole far worse than a mouse but now I am using a track pad (part of a Logitech K400 Plus keyboard) and it's as good as and sometimes better than a mouse. What's happened? Has Microsoft written new drivers or something? My trackpad experience under Windows 10 is really good. What's your experience with trackpads like? Anybody compared them under OS X and Windows 10?

I always use an external mouse... don't care for trackpads at all.

I reckon doing a pinch to zoom in/out is really difficult with a mouse.

Sure, and clicking the Ctrl button while you spin the mouse wheel is tricky with a trackpad :)

It is quite easy to use two fingered gestures to do that, one hand playing with the control key the other using the trackpad. But pinch zoom is easier.

Pinch zoom is nice on a tablet screen, personally I don't care for something the size of a trackpad. I have a graphics tablet that takes up most of my desk :)

Pinch zoom is good on a desktop monitor (non-touch) and a track pad gives it to me, I imagine that on apple laptops the trackpad substitutes in many ways for a touch screen.

I guess that's why they make dozens of different devices... to cater for different preferences.

Of course we could always turn this into a denominational wrangle ;) I'm sure there's a verse in Leviticus that could be sufficiently twisted to make a case...

Could be.

Or an OS war. Operating System wars are very entertaining.
