It means there will be some in heaven with big mansions and some with small mansions, but everybody gets a mansion. Even a small mansion in Heaven is greater than the largest most ornate, posh mansion on Earth.

Indeed there are yet the Lord did not say "there are many mansions, some great and some smaller and you shall be given one comfortable yet sized according to your deeds" so that passage does not support the doctrine proposed by Brighten04.

That verse probably wants a bit more study, given that at face value it essentially means "In my Father's house are many large houses".

No mention of who gets what mansion or how the distribution of mansions is performed. It's not as if we'll really need mansions anyway, I like to think of heaven as the kind of place where God might get a bunch of guys together and say something like "hey, I never got around to mapping this place, do you wanna go take a look?" Pure speculation of course, but no more so than most other things people say about heaven.

Are you saying that Jesus was speaking about only some people when He said in His Father's house are many mansions and that He is going to prepare a place for us?

As for rewards, that is delineated in 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, which describes the Judgment Seat of Christ (for believers):

Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.

12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

There is no reason to make another conclusion. Mansion means "dwelling places" or "abodes" or "rooms", in context.

This thread is not about mansions it is about what is said in Matthew 20:1-16 and what that passage teaches about envy and how the theory of rewards in the resurrection relates to earthly work and worldly envy.

There's no reason to draw your conclusion. "I have many mansions" combined with "I go to prepare a place for you" doesn't mean "you get a mansion".

For good measure the version you word here talks of "dwelling places" rather than "mansions". Truth be told if heaven is all it's cracked up to be I think most of us would be happy with a cabin there.
