We are commanded to go forth in the bible buthow many of us really do this? To go into all the world and our world is where we are. Do you witness to people? Tell people what God has done for you today? I know that I am hesitant to bring it up cold with people and I see that many others are as well. What is your experience?

The scripture I'm thinking of says "as you are going" which means as you're living your life day to day. So that's referring to our vocations and relationships with others. When you build relationships with people and try to live your life as a little Christ, it will show and those who do not believe might take note. They also might feel comfortable asking you questions. We don't have to be "in your face" and we don't have to go door to door. Not everyone is an evangelist in that way.

I'm all for witnessing and spreading the Gospel. However, I have an issue when people do it and they come off really wrong and it's pretty much shoving the Bible down the throats of others.

Yes, it has to happen naturally in comversation. We should acknowledge what God does for us every day and be excited about it. People will just naturally want to know why

There are some people who ask questions but then don't want to hear answers from the Bible. Um. Where else would I get them? :D

it doesn't "have" to happen that way .. bu its great when it does. the problem is few people (Christians ) bring up the name of the lord Jesus in natural conversation .. it takes a degree of death to self to do so..
but i find that it becomes rather easy when we are being prompted by the lord to do so .

Jesus was genuinely interested in any person He spoke to or approached...He spoke of whatever concerned them or what was burdening them, or their suffering and illness, etc. i suspect that is why they responded as they did.

Witnessing is not telling others what God has done for us. It's telling them the truth of their situation (law) and giving them the truth of the cross (gospel).
