The saints in heaven pray. We ask them to pray for us. Being perfected in love and holiness before God they ask for what we need on our behalf.

They have no ear for us. We are not to be trying to talk to the dead. We are to only pray through Jesus Christ our intercessor and only Mediator.

LOL! My prayer is received in heaven, where I hold citizenship!

These are claims that are yet to be established as true; the last Judgement is where they will be put to the test.

Nope. They are declared true by the word now. Born again believers do not undergo the final Great White Throne Judgment...that is for unbelievers. Christians will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ (the Bema Seat) and be judged for their works and rewarded.

How does one know that one has been born from above?

By trusting and believing what God's word teaches us about it, that we place our faith in Jesus Christ as our substitute for punishment of our sin, and that we repent of our sin and follow after Jesus Christ with our lives, enjoying fellowship with Him by His indwelling Holy Spirit who will never leave us or forsake us, and by believing that we are free indeed, and our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Our Good Shepherd, Jesus calls us by name.

Where does holy scripture say that "you shall know that you've been born from above when you believe"?

i'm repeating this again because i really do not like the misrepresentation caused by people partially quoting one sentance of a post .if you're going to quote a person then quote the whole post in context .
------------------------

Yes -it is right to ask others to pray for us
while they are present with us in body .and as such "living " -have not died the first prejudgment death of the flesh .

if however i go and attempt to commune with some departed spirit through any form of medium whether it be a person or an incantation {An incantation may take place during a ritual, either a hymn or prayer, and may invoke or praise a deity- which also makes it idolatry to do so }.(reciting hail marys is a form of incantation used in invoking that departed spirit ), i violate the word of God and I sin to do so

as to the question of departed saints being "approachable" .. no they are not . for if they are indeed ,in heaven and thus pure and holy they themselves would have no part in violating the perfect wil of god or his word which has said .." NO man comes to the father but through me "- so any departed saint which raised himself or herself up as a point of communication with God "a go between " a mediator OTHER then the lord JEsus himself would be in violation of God's will and would be an adversary of God .

distracting from the main point of the thread you made yourself, by leading down a rabbit hole of ambiguity is just not being honest .

you've asked the question in an attempt to justify the rcc false doctrines of praying to mary (although so often romans catholics deny they do so they say they are asking her to pray for them .. how do we "ask god ? oh we pray to him .. so asking and praying is the same thing -(as homer would say -duh )

your either trying to get non catholics to sucumb to non biblical doctrines of rome or trying convert people to the rcc ..
twist if any way you want and it still wont appear in scripture or be validated by scripture .

we approach God on God's terms .. never our own .(or romes ). he has stated in what manner it is acceptable to approach him and pray to him.. through his only unique beloved SON -the lord JESUS , the Christ.

We can ask others to pray for us but I haven't seen any bible backup to indicate that the dead can hear us or offer us any aide so what is the point? Jesus death gives us that connection to God directly and I'd rather go to the man in charge because I know he listens. Why make it difficult and unsure you know?

All will hate me for this , but....

ON THE ONE HAND......

I think a little HUMILITY and HONESTY is needed (sad both are so lacking in contemporary Christianity).

God hears ALL prayers of ALL believers.

Do we KNOW those in heaven can't hear us, aren't aware of our petitions??? Do we KNOW they are incapable of praying?? Do we KNOW God doesn't hear their prayers?? Do we KNOW they are unconscience??

We ARE instructed to pray for each other..... we are told to invite others to pray for us...... do we KNOW this forbids those in heaven?

Aren't we told taht in Christ we are alive? At every PROTESTANT funeral I've been to, the emphasis is that our loved one in not really dead in every way.... I've even heard PROTESTANT pastors talk about how this person in heaven still loves us, cares about us, even I've heard this one in heaven in watching over us and even "rejoices with us." Hum...

I have an aunt to says she talks to her husband (who is now in heaven). She says these talks REALLY help her. Maybe Ralph doesn't hear her, but is this SO horrible, so heretical, so condemnable?????

I can't think of how requesting say our grandfather in heaven to pray FOR us.... hurts. Anything.

ON THE OTHER HAND.....

I think a little HUMILITY and HONESTY is needed (sad both are so lacking in contemporary Christianity).

God hears ALL prayers. Of ALL believers.

Perhaps part of the value of prayer partners is that they are HERE...... they can comfort us.... they can counsel us.... they can support us..... they can correct us..... they can hold us accountable..... When I ask someone to pray for me, it's NOT because I think God is hard of hearing, it's mostly because I welcome their Christian love, care, support, counsel, help. Even if my grandfather knows all about me.... even if he 'hears' all my requests I might make to him..... he's not here. He can't talk to me (as he use to do - so frankly, so honestly, so HELPFULLY - I do miss him). He can't counsel me. He can't support me. He can't hug me. He can't yell at me (as he once did - I do miss him). MAYBE..... spending time asking him to pray for me is ...l unnecessary (he already knows what I need) and just not particularly helpful. Now - my brother.... my good friend Mark.... my wife...... THEY can do more that just echo a prayer God already heard.

Of all the practices that Christians sometimes disagree on, I can think of few where it matters less. I wish we'd spend our time talking about DOGMAS that SEPARATE us, rather than so many things that are just customs that probably don't matter much anyway. Many of my relatives are Catholics, and some of them ask friends in heaven to pray for them. I just can't see the HORROR in that. I don't do this. I just can't see the HORROR in that. In fact, I just cant see that EITHER WAY justifies the horrible things that are said to "the other side."

Sorry.

I don't know what this thread is even about. I think one of those 'Hath God said?' questions has been posed. But the Bible tells us several things. It tells us that we (the living) are to pray for one another. It forbids necromancy, and it tells us that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man and that we are to pray in His name.

Does it, friend? Where does it say ONLY those between physical birth and physical death may pray? Where does it say that those who die in Christ are thus dead? Just questions, my friend.... just questions.

I agree. However, why would one assume that the saints in heaven don't know that and don't pray "in Jesus' name"? Respectfully, just questions, my esteemed friend.

1.The Bible does not forbid anyone to pray.
2.I believe the spirits of the dead in Christ are indeed alive in Christ. I believe they pray praises to our Lord and King Jesus Christ. They, unlike those of us in physical bodies imho don't need to intersede for us, for Lord Jesus taught us how to pray for ourselves. Whether they do or don't is not written. I guess people can believe what they want to believe about this. All things are permissible but not all things are profitable. I guess you have to ask if it profits the living to petition those who have transitioned from earth to Glory.

3. Just my opinion so don't shoot me. I believe people who address spirits other than the Holy Spirit can attract to themselves familiar spirits posing as spirits of relatives or saints. I know a lot of Christians do not believe in evil spirits anymore, but just because people do not believe in them does not make them go away. The devil poses as an angel of light we are told, so we must be aware of his devices.
