You are right about potentially powerful people wanting to keep some things hidden. I'm sure that is true.
Innocent blood and human trafficking are the currency that runs the world. One doesn't get into high positions without participation. And if one balks the system, they get demoted or outed ...one way or the other.

His worst policy is not following through with some of his promises. He talked big about abolishing the income tax, one of the most evil taxes there is, but that won't happen.

I forgot about that promise! I wonder if too many in Congress told him they wouldn't vote for it?

It became a permanent part of our lives with the 16th Amendment and has expanded in scope ever since.

Repeal the 16th?

Won't happen for many reasons, government revenue to pay interest on the debt being just one of them.
