Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Pope Leo XIV, saying he is “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy” and is hurting the Catholic church.

The US president also posted on his Truth Social platform that it was only because he was president that Leo – born in the US – was able to become pope.

Trump’s post said: Unfortunately, Leo’s Weak on Crime, Weak on Nuclear Weapons, does not sit well with me… Leo should get his act together as Pope, use Common Sense, stop catering to the Radical Left, and focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician. It’s hurting him very badly and, more importantly, it’s hurting the Catholic Church!

Trump’s post came after Leo denounced the “delusion of omnipotence” as fuelling the US-Israel war in Iran and demanded political leaders stop and negotiate peace.

Leo presided over an evening prayer service in St Peter’s Basilica on the same day the US and Iran began talks in Pakistan amid the fragile ceasefire, the Associated Press reports.

The current Pope, last one too, seem more interested in politics and political power (paid for by someone else, of course) than in spreading the Gospel to those who have not heard it or explaining it to those who have heard and not understood.

This is another sign of what Jesus warned us of, the substituting of unsound doctrine (the doctrines of men) in place of truth as he taught it.

When I was young I was told to beware of politics masquerading as religion, now that I am old I understand why.

Trump is use to bullying anyone who disagrees with him and he doesn't like it that this Pope doesn't agree with him.

I agree with you on this! The latest from the Pope is that he's not afraid of Trump. I don't think Trump is afraid of him either. Whom shall we fear?

Trump's long reminded me of a schoolyard bully who goes after anyone he wants and doesn't like it when someone stands up to him.

Its' especially galling to hear Trump's recent insinuation that the only reason Leo was chosen as pontiff was because he, like Trump, is an American, when according to papal reports, the cardinals last year at the papal conclave following Francis' passing chose Leo as a continuation of Francis' policies

I think half the stuff Trump says is just to get a reaction from people. At this point in his life, he doesn't care what others think of him because he's been treated so poorly while in office.
