2 Thess 2:11
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
KJV
Firstly, no thoughts like "Lord Jesus will protect me, I don't need to watch against deception," will make this subject by Apostle Paul go away. Secondly, the coming Antichrist will not be any mortal... man, but a supernatural being working great signs, wonders, and miracles to deceive the whole world.
The "strong delusion" Paul warned the Church about is aimed particularly at Christ's Church, so each believer on Jesus Christ must be aware of what it is about, and watch against its deception. Thus the believer is either aware of it, or they are deceived and already subject to it. Which one are YOU brethren in Christ? Do you know what the "strong delusion" is about?
The term "strong delusion" itself: the word delusion simply means an idea like an illusion, or make-believe. With an adjective like "strong" in front of it, it means a powerful... illusion. The specific illusion Apostle Paul revealed in the 2 Thessalonians 2 Chapter is that of the coming Antichrist at the end of this world, and how that Antichrist will setup himself up as GOD in a stone temple in JERUSALEM, and exalt himself over all that is called... GOD, or that is worshiped, and with the power to work SUPERNATURAL MIRACLES. That is the specific danger of "strong delusion" that Apostle Paul is warning us about in that 2 Thessalonians 2 Chapter. That coming Antichrist is going to play our Lord Jesus Christ. And it is not about any 'mortal' man, but a SUPERNATURAL BEING.
2 Thess 2:1-5
2 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Paul's main subject is the future coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Church's gathering to Him. That day is still expecting.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Paul then links 2 major events that MUST happen first before Jesus will come to gather us (His Church).
That "son of perdition" must be revealed, AND there must be a great apostasy ("a falling away"). Both events are tied together. What that "son of perdition" will do is what will cause that great apostasy of deception by many who do not study these warnings by Christ and His Apostles about the END of this world. Lord Jesus covered about this coming false one also in Matthew 24:23-26, and in the Greek referred to a singular pseudo-Christ (pseudochristos in the Greek). It is about a fake-Christ that is coming to play our Lord Jesus, in Jerusalem, for the end of this world.
In 2 Corinthians 11, Apostle Paul would warn about those who preach the "another Jesus" that is coming to deceive like how that old serpent deceived Eve in God's Garden.
2 Cor 11:1-4
11 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one Husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
KJV
Notice Paul even used the analogy of Lord Jesus being our "one Husband" we are betrothed to, all in the spiritual sense.
2 Thess.2:5
Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
KJV
Paul had evidently gone over this matter with the Thessalonians before, and was having to remind them. When he said to not be deceived, not even by letter AS IF from us (the Apostles), that reveals there were false ones that had crept in that were distorting these events leading up to Christ's future return. Paul likewise pointed to those as "false apostles" in 2 Corinthians 11.
That "son of perdition" label Lord Jesus applied to Judas Iscariot per John 17:12. However, Judas had already been dead quite a while when Apostle Paul wrote this Epistle to the Thessalonians. Who then does that "son of perdition" title actually apply to? It applies to Satan himself, and key word is 'perdition'. Per Revelation 9 one of Satan's titles given there in the Greek is Apollyon, which means Destroyer, but literally is the Greek word apollumi for 'perdition'. That is specifically one of Satan's titles because only he and his angels so far are already sentenced to perdition... at the future "lake of fire". No flesh-born man has been sentenced to perish yet, not even Judas. The Revelation 17:8 & 11 verses reveals that idea of perdition about Satan even more so.
Thusly, there is who this coming "man of sin", "son of perdition", "that Wicked" one, the Antichrist, is actually about; not a mere mortal man, but Satan himself on this earth in plain sight, working miracles to cause the whole world to believe he is GOD. And in our case as believers on Jesus Christ, that means Satan is coming to play our Lord Jesus.
2 Thess 2:6-12
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
The one who will boot Satan and his angels out of Heaven in our near future will be Archangel Michael, per Revelation 12:7-8, and Daniel 12:1. In Daniel 10, which is about events in Heaven that shadow events on earth, we are told that the only one who is withholding with angel Gabriel is Archangel Michael. When that war in Heaven happens in our near future, that is when Satan and his angels will be literally loosed upon our earth, in plain sight, in our earthly dimension.
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
KJV
That above is a strong accusation by Apostle Paul against those who take pleasure in this world, and thus forget what is most important for the soul and their Salvation. They care more about this flesh world than the Truth, and thus they have not the 'love of the Truth', and by default are subject to this "strong delusion" of Satan as the coming Antichrist-false-Messiah to Jerusalem working great signs and wonders to deceive the whole world. Nor have they understood enough of God's Word to know just how it is possible for angels to appear here on earth in our earthly dimension, and live like a mortal person (See Hebrews 13:2).
