What’s a moment in Scripture that you think would feel completely different if you were physically standing there?
Jesus and the adulterous woman (John 8: 1-11). We know what happened as told by Scripture but to actually be there, to see Christ speaking as he threads the line between being ensnared by the Sanhedrin and strictly enforcing by rote the punishments of the Mosaic Covenant for adultery.
Instead, He reminds us that, as sinners, none of us are in a position to judge one another and that, by drawing a line in the sand, he was indirectly challenging the Jewish authorities' legalistic structures w/out directly challenging their authority. On the flip side, His words to the adulterous woman - "Now go and sin no more" were not a get out of jail free card because while He wasn't condoning her sins, He wasn't condemning her as the Sanhedrin would've go.
IN His words and actions we see (1) forgiveness and mercy towards sinners, (2) conviction of sin and (3) that while we are all sinners, we also are deserving in His eyes of second chances.
