I admit to being a little discouraged by the amount of hostility towards the Catholic Church expressed in posts in this forum. I don't know if staying here is worth it.

MC I hope you do stick around, while controversy surrounding the church is real and peoples thoughts are also, I would hope that none of it was personal. Please stick around, I could have thought the same way about WOF but I am still here.

Hi everyone. Please stay here MC. I would miss you if you left. I was baptized Catholic, too.

MC, would you mind sending me a PM with those concerns?

My concerns do not warrant a PM. Open discussion is probably better. When first I arrived here there were a few active Catholic Christians now there appears to be less or none but me. I don't resent people preferring their own denomination or meeting and I do not mind discussions about doctrine even if they become a little heated but here in CH there is a relentless uninformed hostility towards the Catholic Church on the part of some people and it gets wearing and tiring and boring. I am not asking for people to be banned or 'disciplined' or for any official actions to be taken. I am wondering out loud if it is worth staying when deeply offensive and profoundly ignorant comments are made. It is not as if the Catholic Church doesn't publish its teaching nor is it hard to ask a polite question like "what does the Catholic Church teach about purgatory" or whatever is on the mind of a person who wants to know but to be told time and time again what I allegedly believe and what the Catholic Church allegedly teaches by people who don't have a clue is wearing, tiring, and boring.

I've mentioned this before in an occasional post and most days I do not really mind if somebody wants to be a jerk but it is a very hot day today (37 C and yesterday was 41 C) and I am feeling much less tolerant of jerks than I normally am. If I decide to part don't take it as a critique of you or any moderator or anybody else. Think of it as fatigue in dealing with people who insist on being jerks about my religion.

Throughout my travels on message boards in over 20 years, I've always seen Catholic bashing. Some sites are worse than others, but even on Catholic forums there is bashing. That doesn't make it right though! I'm just saying I don't know where you would go to hide?

If it's the case of the same people doing this, you can put them on ignore if it becomes too much?

You're right that there are jerks everywhere and no forum on the internet is free of them but I did not say I was looking for another forum or a forum that was jerk-free. All I want to convey is that it is wearing, tiring, boring, and just unproductive to type a post with some history or scripture or theology in it only to be told "Catholics are ruled out because their church is so nasty" or words to that effect.

The brother of one of our Deacons died Christmas Eve. We had his funeral today. So sad. :(

I wonder if Catholics do a better job ...

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
and with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing earthly minded,
For with blessing is His hand,
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
Our full homage to demand.

King of kings, Yet born of Mary,
As of old earth He stood,
Lord of lords, In human vesture,
In the body and the blood;
He will give to all the faithful.
His own self for heavenly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven
spreads its vanguard on the way,
As Light of light descendeth
from the realms of endless day,
That the powers of hell may vanish
as the darkness clears away.

At His feet the six-winged seraph,
Cherubim, With sleepless eye,
Veil their faces to His presence
as with ceaseless voice they cry:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Lord Most High!
