Now I have done plenty of studying about man is a tripartite being in the image of God. We consist of Spirit/Soul/Body, and that is a great study area which taught me that, I am a spirit, I do have a soul, and I live in a body (temporarily). But I also saw something else in scripture. It speaks of, the Heart, in many places, and I thought, I have a handle on spirit/soul/body, but what exactly is this "Heart" that scripture speaks of. It is not the flesh heart, it's something else. What is it? I find this:

Proverbs 4:23
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life..../KJV

And here it is in the NLT in more modern language:

4:23
23 Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life..../NLT

So it determines the course of our life. Makes sense. People do and act upon what is in their heart. Right? Soo, this is important, wouldn't you agree?

What is your heart? Can anyone tell me?

It makes sense that, it might be a composite of...our other 3 parts? It has to be a part of our mind I would think, for out of it flow the issues (decisions) of life...??

So nobody knows anything about the Heart? That's odd since scripture treats it so importantly. Says we should diligently guard our hearts.

I think my heart is my desire to abstain from sin and to follow Jesus and obey his commandments so that he will be proud to present me to our Heavenly Father.

From Google:

The Bible describes the heart as the central source of a person's inner being, encompassing emotions, thoughts, desires, and will, and it is viewed as the seat of life and character. It emphasizes the importance of guarding the heart and seeking a pure heart, as it is the wellspring from which actions and words flow. The Bible also highlights the need for God to search and test the heart, as it is deceitful and desperately sick.
Elaboration:
The Heart as the Core of Being:
In the Bible, the heart is not just the physical organ but the center of a person's inner life, encompassing emotions, thoughts, and will. It is the place where decisions are made and where a person's true nature resides.
Importance of Guarding the Heart:
The Bible urges believers to guard their hearts, recognizing that it is the source of everything a person does, thinks, and says. A pure and uncorrupted heart is essential for a relationship with God and for living a life that reflects His character.
The Heart as the Source of Actions:
Jesus taught that a person's actions and words reveal what is in their heart. A person's heart, whether pure or impure, affects everything they do, reflecting their character and relationship with God.
God's Knowledge of the Heart:
The Bible emphasizes that God knows and searches the heart, revealing its hidden motives and desires. He desires a pure and whole-hearted devotion, and He offers forgiveness and transformation for those who seek Him.
The Heart's Deceitfulness:
Jeremiah 17:9 states that the heart is deceitful and desperately sick, highlighting the inherent human tendency to be self-deceived and prone to sin. However, this also underscores the need for God's grace and power to transform the heart.
Jesus' Gentle and Lowly Heart:
Matthew 11:29 describes Jesus as gentle and lowly in heart, demonstrating the importance of humility and compassion. This verse highlights the heart of Jesus as a model for believers to follow.

Ok that makes sense. The Mind/Will/Emotions is what makes up our soul. So our soul is part of our heart. Only as a part of it though. The heart does more than mind, will, and emotions alone. It is deceitfully wicked but can also make us throw logic out the door.

Someone is holding a little girl hostage. The Police should handle it, right? Their trained for that stuff. Logical. But as the Dad gets ready to charge in the front door himself someone heard him say something like, I cant trust cops with my little girl. And he goes in and rescues his own daughter. That wasnt logic, that was Heart, that was love. So here we are describing our spirit also!

So our heart is a composite of, our soul and parts of our spirit, and our mind. Have we missed anything?
