When someone says See Ya Later, how soon do you expect to hear back from him/her?

I don't have any particular expectations. Sometimes "see you later" implies something soon, it might imply a mutually assumed next meeting (e.g. next Sunday at church), or it might not imply anything at all. It's odd if the cashier at the hardware store says "see ya later" when the most likely outcome is that either I'll never see them again or neither of us will recognise the other if our paths do happen to cross, but as a figure of speech it's harmless enough.
