Is it worth running a snowblower for that little snow?

We got about four inches of snow yesterday. It fell slowly but steadily for most of the day, but it was the light powdery snow that's easy to clear. I went for a walk in the evening and saw someone using a leaf blower to blow the snow off their car, which got me thinking that maybe a leaf blower would be an effective way to deal with light powdery snow. It's easy to shovel but takes so many passes across the driveway because the shovel leaves a trail either side. In previous years one of next door's kids (we share a driveway, so clearing it is usually a joint effort) has wielded a wide broom to clear up the remains from the rest of us pushing shovels.

Maybe I'll get a blower next time there's a sale on at the local hardware store.

Yes, it was worth running the snowblower because the temps were really low and it goes faster. Plus, there was ice underneath that made it heavy.

Ah, ice makes a big difference. What we had was very light and powdery.

Yesterday at the grocery store, the checkout lady said she was shoveling during the storm and it was light and fluffy then. We waited until the next morning for it to be over and that was when it had gotten heavier.

I got up early to start on some laundry and I was really hungry for breakfast. I'm actually thinking about going back to bed though really soon.

I just went and got gas since I was below half. Does anyone else hate being on less than half a tank?

If I'm expecting to drive anywhere the cell service is minimal at this time of year I want a decent amount of fuel in the tank, just in case. Other times I don't worry until I'm low. I don't like being concerned I don't have enough gas to get the couple of miles to my preferred gas station, but at a push I have a gas can I use for the lawnmower so I can walk to a nearer station and get a couple of gallons to tide me over, if I need to.

That's good you're within walking distance to a gas station. Our nearest one is 4 miles away. That's too much to walk with a big jug of gasoline on the way home.

It's a long way to walk but if you don't have any gas in your car you run out of options. You only need a gallon of gas, maybe less if you can buy less, to get your car to the station. You'd certainly get your steps in, walking 8 miles out and back.

My nearest gas station is about 1/4 mile away, but the one I prefer to use (they have better loyalty discounts) is about a mile.

I'd also have a very sore back. I would prefer to ask my neighbors for gas.

If you have neighbors nearby that's certainly an easier option. Or you could ask for a ride to the gas station with your gas can :)

My little block each has an acre minimum of space, so they're close enough. :) A few of them are home all the time as homemakers and we have all exchanged phone numbers at the last block party.

That's handy. It's good to know there are people nearby you can call on if you need them.

It really gives me peace of mind, especially since my daughter is an hour and a half away and my other relatives are 12 hours away. My church friends are about 20 minutes plus, but I would hate to bother them unless it's an absolute emergency. I don't mind asking neighbors.

It's a bit of an ask to ask someone to drive 20 minutes to take you to the gas station to fill a can of gas to then drive you home and drive 20 minutes back home, because you forgot to fill up.

In an emergency I suspect any friend who was able to help would be willing to help. I like to think I would be, if one of my friends was in an emergency situation.

Most of my neighbors have filled gas cans in their garages :) Makes it far easier to borrow some gas LOL

Yes, you can borrow enough gas from the can to get to the gas station, where you can refill the can and return it. Sounds convenient, as long as the gas hasn't been sitting there for eons.

We usually have some gas in a can for the mower, although in the winter we just put whatever's left in one of the cars rather than leaving it to sit in the freezing cold.

The forecast says there's a chance of a wintry mix with ice accumulation tonight. I hope the roads are safe to get to church tomorrow.

Our last church was barely a mile from home so we could walk it if we needed to. The church we've been attending for a few weeks now is about 8 miles away, so walking isn't a useful option even if it isn't icy.

We do the exact thing!! We also use sea foam in our small engines so that they are good to go when we need them in the spring.

I got a good night's sleep and woke up to a beautiful sunny day. Spring is inching closer and even though I won't go hiking today, I will be doing it soon enough. Today I'm just doing some cleaning before my husband gets home early from work.
