How do you deal with unwanted spam calls either by a robocaller or live person? I have been getting a lot of spam calls to the point I am considering changing my phone number. They aren't political calls which would make sense this time of year, but they say they are calling about medicare benefits which I am not old enough to get medicare anyway. I have told them that and asked them not to call but they do anyway. They disguise the call to look like a local number, but they are not local. I think this is just an attempt to get personal information and not legit

I have tried using a robocall blocker and it doesn't stop it

I am on the do not call registry and have reported them several times, but it has only gotten worse.

I use my phone to also check my blood sugar, so I need it to stay on

There's no point changing your number because it just inconveniences you, and sooner or later the spam will catch up with you anyway.

If I don't recognise a number calling me I let it go to voicemail, unless I'm expecting a call and don't know what number it's coming from. If it's important they can leave a message.

If I do answer a call and it's a timewaster I either hang up on them or, if I have some time to while away, it can be fun to see how much of their time I can waste. It's remarkable how slow I can be to understand a concept they only explained three times so far, but I really am interested if they'd like to go over it again.

If it's the kind of caller who wants to tell me that my computer is infected with viruses then the gloves come off and I have some fun. Usually my wife has to leave the room because she can't stop laughing.

I have a Google pixel 3a phone and it actually tells me when a SPAM call is coming in. I can easily swipe away the call. Not all of them will leave a voice mail.

A 3a? That must be quite old. I have a shiny new Pixel that does much the same, although I can usually tell it's a spam call because most of them are from area codes I don't recognise. Every once in a while I get a call that looks like it's from my town and turns out to be someone with a thick Indian accent who wants to explain how my computer has so many problems.

It's VERY old but works for my needs, so why switch right now? Phones are too expensive to just stop using and get new ones all the time. I can't justify buying a new one until this one has issues.

A friend of mine used to lead the spam callers on, pretending she bought their scam and making them waste time going over things LOL She recorded a few of those conversations and it's hilarious.

I hear you, I replaced my old phone after six years because I was getting frustrated with it.

My record for wasting a spam caller's time was 35 minutes. It's not going to end well for them if they call me at a time I'm looking for something to do to while away a bit of time.

I only answer my phone when people are in my contacts LOL I try to make sure that if I call a business for a quote that I put it immediately into my contacts so I don't avoid them.

That doesn't always work for me. My local hardware store has a local number but if they call me the call comes from the number associated with their main branch which is a couple of hours drive from here. My car dealership has a few numbers and there's no way of knowing which of them will show up when they call, although they typically only call when I've either asked for a call back or when they are doing some work on my car.

But if they're really calling for you, they'd leave a message. Most spammers don't leave messages anymore (except the political calls).

I changed the settings for it to go automatically to voice mail if the caller isn't on my call list. They have still called about 10 times a day, but I never hear the phone ring now.

True, but if I'm whiling away time waiting for my car to be ready I'd rather not be at the mercy of however long it takes my phone to figure I have a voicemail. But if I'm whiling away time waiting for my car, and a call comes in from the general area of the dealership at about the time I'm expecting them to be ready, I'll take the chance. I can always hang up if it's a timewaster.

If I don’t recognize the name or number I rarely answer it.

We just don't answer unless the number is recognized. if it's than important, they'll leave a voicemail, if not, oh well, guess it wasn't that important.

I laugh because you'd think the telemarketers would leave a voicemail, as I would at least listen to the voicemail, rather then outright ignoring and eventually blocking or reporting them with no voicemail.

The ones I get never leave one. They hang up before it goes to voicemail.

A voicemail doesn't really do any good unless they leave you with a means to contact them, and if they do that then you can contact them.

If I ever got hold of the number of the telemarketer types you can be sure I'd call them at every single mealtime.

They do tend to leave a phone number, but it's funny because they want to get mad when some of them realize they're annoying and then when you question them, that's when they get mad.

The best idea is to block them. I blocked one because they were impersonating an insurance company I buy from. I did this after I checked in with the real company and found I didn't owe them money yet.
