My family is here until next week and my dad will be walking with me, but he can probably only do a mile at a time. So now I need to choose places that are interesting for him at the parks I go to.

Saturday was an hour of speed repeats, yesterday was a gentle walk because neither my wife nor I really felt like doing much of anything, and today was a longer gentle run. I think my running shoes are ready to be retired, there's not much support in the heels any more.

We had family staying with us and as much as I tried to get them to walk with me, they were couch potatoes :(

Yesterday's exercise was 86 minutes of base running. Today was 42 minutes of base running. I'm not sure how my tracker comes up with its numbers but usually do something broadly in line with what it suggests.

Today was a struggle. I'm not sure if it was the heat or something else but it felt like I just had nothing to give and it was a struggle to keep my heart rate down. Still, tomorrow is another day so hopefully it will improve.

It was so beautiful out and I was able to get my 3 mile hike in. It felt good to get it done finally after having family here and I couldn't get a decent workout in.

I had hoped for an easy workout today but my suggested workout was "90 minutes base". Because it's warm and humid it was difficult to keep my pulse down but today I decided I just wanted to run rather than have my watch constantly beeping at me to tell me I'm doing it wrong, so accepted my heart rate was going to be a bit on the high side.

For the first half or so it was OK, then a couple of hills pushed it up and from there on I struggled to keep it down, so I just accepted it was going to be about 10% higher than I'd have chosen. It was good to just run without worrying about intervals. I should do that more often.

Yesterday my husband and I got our 3 mile hike in and it was cloudy, so it wasn't too hot. Today it's supposed to be raining on and off, so I'm not sure whether I can get out there for a good hike.

We're due rain for most of the day today so any exercise will probably just be laps of the hall at church. Seriously tedious but it gets some movement in.

Today's suggested workout was "threshold", running at around the pace my watch last clocked as my lactate threshold speed. But because my watch doesn't consider elevation it was a mixed blessing - the first interval was downhill for the first 60% of the way so maintaining the pace was easy. Then it turned uphill and climbed a couple of steeper sections locally, which meant maintaining the pace was impossibly hard. Thankfully the interval ended before I had to take a walk break, so I took full use of the recovery time before the next interval. But from there the gradients, the heat and the sustained pace proved too much and I struggled to maintain my target pace.

It wasn't all bad though, my watch recorded a new lactate threshold pace which was a few seconds faster than my previous one, making it the fastest pace it has been since I started running. Which is a mixed blessing in itself, because my next threshold run is probably going to have slightly harder targets to hit now.

I've been working diligently on painting both the master bathroom and master bedroom. It's quite the workout and today I hope to finish the second coats on both! I work up a sweat more than I do when I go hiking. ow.

I'll give you a call when I've got my rooms drywalled. I hate painting.

I was hoping for a recovery day today but my suggested workout is a 42 minute base run. Base is easy enough, although the heat won't help. I met a friend for breakfast so needed to give it a while before trying to run, which meant the day had chance to get warmer. I hope the heat isn't too oppressive while I'm out.

I used to LOVE painting...but wow, I'm too old for this. I normally don't sweat, and for 3 days straight, I've been sweating and we have the air conditioning on!! It's crazy. I better be thinner after this!

Yesterday my suggested workout was a 30-minute recovery run but I really struggle with those because the suggested pace is slow enough I struggle to stay slow enough. So I did a free run, keeping the pace comfortable and taking a walk break more or less whenever I felt like it. Which turned out to be less often than I expected, and so I worked my way around my 8-mile loop at a gradually increasing pace.

Today my suggested workout was another recovery run, so I did the same again but a little faster. Not so much running faster but taking fewer and shorter breaks. Both times my watch registered the workouts as being base level intensity so it's still a low aerobic load, which is good. Sometimes I get carried away and end up running harder than I planned.

With bad weather and illness I have recently, I haven't been able to go hiking and barely make my step count per day :( Hoping to get back to it once I get over whatever it is I have. It's not covid...test came back negative.

I've been enjoying the relative freedom of running my 8-mile loop in whatever form the urge takes me. I'll often walk the first mile or so to get myself warmed up, then run sections and take walk breaks more or less when I feel like it, although I'll usually try and maintain a pace up the hills rather than get too lax making it easy.

In the heat it's hard to sustain effort without my pulse going very high so I've been alternating running and walking around my 8-mile loop. Because running for a long time is harder in the heat I've been running faster for the shorter intervals, then taking whatever time I need to cool off.

Ugh a week after I wrote that I got sick and I STILL have it. This is an illness where you feel like you're getting better and then the next day you take a turn for the worse. Then a couple days later, you get better again and then worse again. It's so weird.

Yick, that doesn't sound good. Hope you feel better soon.
