Today's suggested workout was "threshold", running at around the pace my watch last clocked as my lactate threshold speed. But because my watch doesn't consider elevation it was a mixed blessing - the first interval was downhill for the first 60% of the way so maintaining the pace was easy. Then it turned uphill and climbed a couple of steeper sections locally, which meant maintaining the pace was impossibly hard. Thankfully the interval ended before I had to take a walk break, so I took full use of the recovery time before the next interval. But from there the gradients, the heat and the sustained pace proved too much and I struggled to maintain my target pace.
It wasn't all bad though, my watch recorded a new lactate threshold pace which was a few seconds faster than my previous one, making it the fastest pace it has been since I started running. Which is a mixed blessing in itself, because my next threshold run is probably going to have slightly harder targets to hit now.
