@tango

Instead of listening to me, I suggest going to this guy...he has a lot of knowledge in simple, powerful batteries the average person can do, as well as other devices the average person can do to supplement electricity. Here's a good example:

Some of the things I'm working on deal with electronics concepts that are a-typical and more involved. They are powerful in concept, but as yet unproved until I have the equipment to actually test them.

Fun With Taps.

Our cold tap has been dripping for a while. You can fiddle with it to stop it dripping but it's a bit of a drag. So today I decided it was time to fix it so took the guts out of it and enjoyed a fun game of Match The Stem at the hardware store. It's a great game - you take something in to the hardware store and try to match it against other things that are in little plastic bubbles, that are almost the same but may not be quite the same, until you find the one that's a match. I found two that had different product codes but looked the same, but the assistant spotted the tops were slightly different. Sure enough, one matched what I needed and one did not.

Anyway, I got two stems and updated the hot tap while I was at it. Now they turn on and off cleanly, and so far no more dripping.

Fiddling with some computer code. I've got an application I wrote years ago that has evolved over the years, and recently I tried to update it only to realise just how convoluted parts of the code have become over the years. So I'm working on streamlining it and stripping out a load of redundancy and duplication. The initial outcome will be an application that does exactly the same as the existing version, but the next step is to add some functionality to it that will be vastly easier once I've got it all streamlined.

So far I've got most of it working, with a few other bits still unfinished. It's been something I've been pondering for a while, and in the last few days I decided to quit stalling and get on with it.

I have the heater tower on in the family room since it was a little chilly when I got up. Just going to surf the net for a bit this morning and we're going out to eat for lunch later.

I spent nearly all of yesterday (literally probably 15 hours) working on putting together an energy harvesting circuit (in sim software). The circuit isn't especially complicated, and yet try to find suitable parts! Sim software often simplifies things for ease of use...when in fact there are more variables at play. For instance, inductors generally don't have resistances, but in real life they do and depending on the circuit, even a few milli-ohms can make a huge difference. Capacitors are polarized or non-polarized, but in real life they can take many forms and suffer from things like ripple current depending on the application.

But - I am proud of my finished (but will probably spend a few hours) tweaking, circuit. I needed to plug in actual values from parts I could find available, make numerous inquiry's, both of real people and AI, research things like ESR, ripple current, and the behavior of the values applied within this certain type.

And - I can't share it. At least, not yet. I can share most things but not this. It's not something most people would understand, and probably misunderstand. In any case, I'm very close to getting the parts for it, at least one of which I could not find locally at my local electronics store.

I've been having fun with pipes. I've got a very strange mixer setup feeding one of my bathrooms and even though the intentions behind it are clear the actual application of it is frustrating in the winter because it means the water in the shower barely goes above moderately warm. At some point I want to rip out all of that plumbing and replace it with something more logical but for now I spent some time fighting with valves to get them to turn at all (a big wrench is very handy) and then adjusting them so I can get hot water without losing cold water pressure.

I'm going to go get my thyroid meds once CVS opens its pharmacy this morning. Mondays are my busy days, so I'm doing laundry and cleaning too.

I got up early to get to the grocery store. I prefer to go when not a lot of people are there because it annoys me when they block the aisles with their carts and don't move.

I'm not sure if it's my perception or not, it seems to me that since we were graciously allowed to go out in public again there seem to be far more people with a total lack of spatial awareness. It's as if more and more people truly think they are the only person who even exists.

I haven't really noticed that. I'll have to start paying attention.

Crash course in learning the German language. Over 40 days so far spending at least 2 hours a day learning not only German words, but it's unique sentence structure, pronunciation, spelling and grammar. It's been fun and eye-opening. Sometimes I assumed when reading English translations that stuff may have been mistranslated because words I recognized followed/preceded words I also recognized but didn't match the translation, then found out that German word order can differ significantly from English.

Composing.
