I know I've dissed Trump a lot on this board. But I do want to say this.

If Covid had not happened we would be looking at the last two years of the Trump administration. In Dec 2019 the Economy was rolling along and people had more or less gotten used to Trump's twitter tirades.

Then Covid happened, the left thought he didn't do enough and the right thought he did too much. The Economy tanked due to all the lock downs and he said some crazy things during this time when people were looking for stability and leadership. Then to top it off, states made it easier to vote via mail-in or absentee ballots which make it much easier to have vote-mining. (and yes, I do believe Democrats engaged in Vote mining in 2020, probably not enougth to change the outcome of the election, but I do believe it happened). Trump wasn't able to have his big rallys and Biden was able to stay in his basement. That is why Trump lost in 2020. It was a perfect storm.

I'm convinced that if Covid had not happened he would have went on to an easy reelection.

Then after the election had made a strategic mistake by continuing to not concede. In our country, once you appeal and the courts side against you it is over. Instead of having the January 6th rally he should have said something along the lines of "I'll continue to fight for what I believe in and I'll see you next time". That would have taken him out of the spotlight and Democrats would not have January 6th as ammo against him.

Let's face it, he would probably still have had a ton of civil suites against him but he wouldn't be fighting criminal charges.

I will also say that I think the state of the economy and society would have been more or less in the same place in 2019 had any Republican won the nomination and general election in 2016. For instance, Ted Cruz would have passed a tax cut and appointed three very conservative Justices. I also think Cruz or Rubio would have shown more leadership, stablity, and emphathy during Covid.

On a side note, I have a family member who was a big Trump supporter. He told me that he will sit out the race this time because Trump was behind the development and pushed for people to get the Covid vaccine.

Anyway, I don't like Trump and don't think he did anything special as President and would prefer another Republican with more tact, more politically able, and more likeable to be our nominee. But that is not what we are going to have.

I'm hoping the Supreme Court disqualifies him and someone else jumps in and wins. The thing is though, he is his own worst enemy. If he could just be nice and let some things roll off his back and not have to call people names or say stupid things then he would have won last time
