Yes, some stuff has piled up at my place but no where near a hoarding situation.

A major house move focuses the mind on what is worth keeping.

You may want to give it to Goodwill or Salvation Army if you do not want the stuff.

I'd give it to local thrift stores. I read an article a while back that suggested Goodwill manages to pay its CEO a very handsome salary, so I'd rather give to something local where I can have more confidence the money will go to where it's needed.

I heard that too about Goodwill. Their prices aren't always the best either as some of the local thrift shops and that might be the contributing factor as to why...CEO big money!

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

I often struggle when charities have offices in prestigious (read: expensive) areas. In the City of London (one of the most expensive parts of the UK, if not the world) is a Salvation Army office, which is fairly impressive. But that said, it's hard to know whether they were there before the City of London became the financial powerhouse it is today - realistically speaking they were probably there long before the Square Mile became home to so many international banks and brokerages.

I realise charities need to have people who know what they are doing at the very top but if a charity is so big it really feels the need to pay seven figures to the CEO maybe it's time they divided into multiple smaller charities that didn't cost so much to run, in order to give more money to the needy.

Yes, and I made a couple of moves that reduced a lot of my "junk" so now all I have I want to keep.

I took most of the contents of my last house to the landfill, charity shop and eBay.

That's good.

It didn't feel good going through everything with a ruthless eye and asking whether I really wanted to pay money to ship it and then find a place to store it. But a lot of stuff went to a better home.

I had an entire shelf of books that I'd been keeping for years because I loved reading them. But I hadn't read any of them for 5 years or more. My nephew was a little young for them but fairly soon he should be ready for them if he's interested, so now he's got a whole stack of books to look forward to. It was a good feeling ripping up the old carpets and taking them to landfill. Wish I'd done that earlier so I could have got more benefit from the new ones, but there you go.

Sounds like a huge job.
