Is a garage that is attached to your home considered a living space?

The attached garage where I live is not considered living space. Our square footage in realtors listings doesn't even include the finished basement I think? I can't remember. I know in the state I used to live in that basements weren't included, but that was a decade ago so it might have changed since then.

Many listings I've seen indicate living space above ground and living space below ground, so they differentiate between finished and unfinished basement space, while also indicating how much living space is below ground. I guess even with required windows/escape routes it's not likely to be very bright in the basement.

I don't think I've ever seen an attached garage counted as living space.

The square footage is not considered in the total living space. Though, where I live, many use it as additional living space such as a gym and man caves it seems.

Yes, people leave their $50,000 car on the driveway so they can fill their garage with $500 worth of junk.
