What are the 'last days' or 'latter days' in Scriputre? They certainly must refer to 'end time events'.

I ask because a certain one has described the 'latter days' as a 'ploy' used by dispensationalists. But he then runs away when confronted with Scripture.

So, does any here have an understanding of the 'last days'?

Jesus talks of this when asked that very question and Revelation describes that terrible period as well, Daniel also helps with interpretation. I t takes a lot of study to gain true understanding.

I think it can mean different things. It is used for the last 2000 years since Jesus came and the time before the trib.

1 John 2:18

18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

2 Peter 3:3-4

3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

That's the time before He comes back. Not the whole 2000 years cause he says it's in the future. It may also have been the case then, but like with birth pangs, more when He almost comes.

2 Timothy 3:1-5

1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,
4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:14-17

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 1 Peter 1:20

Hebrews 1
God, who [a]at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son

James 5
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! 2 Your riches [a]are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.

Yes it does. And the term 'last days' by it's very definition begs the question of 'when'? Begs the question of 'time'?

I agree. The term 'last days' or 'latter days' can mean different things depending on who it is speaking to. Is it speaking to Israel or the Church?

Israel's 'last days' involve turning away from God and God's judgement. (Deut. 31:29) "For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days...." But, they also involve the setting up of the Kingdom. (Is. 2:1-5) "...And it shall come to pass in the last days....and they shall beat their swords into plow shares...."

The Church's 'last days' involve apostasy and resurrection. (1 Tim. 4:1) "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils." (John 6:44) "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." See also (John 6:39).

This brings up the question of how to interpret (Acts 2:16-17) and the coming of the Holy Spirit. "But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days...."

It looks like Joel jumps from one time to another time as if it's one event. It was about Acts, but there's also former and latter rain and Israel gets saved from their enemies, sun darkens, moon turns to blood, God stays there. Just 2000 years skipped as if it's one event. That's why orthodox Jews think it's one event.

Yes, I agree.

For Israel, this was going to be their 'latter days'. Thus Jesus came offering the Kingdom. The judgement of the 7 year Tribulation would still have needed to be fulfilled. But all was put on hold with Israel when she rejected and crucified Jesus Christ.

God is now working with a new body of believers, the Church, whose 'last days' are yet future involving apostasy and resurrection. And Israel's last days are also now future involving the Tribulation and the Kingdom to come.
