As some here may or may not know, I am an Annihilation-ist. What this means is that I believe that those who God does not save will be utterly destroyed. I base this on several passages in the bible, and I reject the concept of a sort of "living death" where a person/soul/body "burns forever" then regenerates somehow
to burn some more. That said, I do believe the wicked will be burned and destroyed.
But there is something else that comforts me, and it is the only thing that calms me when I read or watch horror stories of what happens to some people. It stops me from wanting to take vengeance myself and trust in these words:
Vengeance is Mine
Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
If Vengeance belongs to God, and He will wipe away every tear, and tears are from remembering
It seems to me the wicked will feel all the hurts they inflicted on others, before they are destroyed by fire. Some of the spectacularly wicked, people responsible for the death/torture of millions will relive each of their victims injuries until all of them are exhausted, that could be 10, it could be 10million, and then they will be destroyed. In other words, they will see and feel through their victims eyes. They will know what it's like to be that victim, and for some of them, this will take a very long time, because they had many victims.
Does this seem like justice to you? Mercy eventually comes with the destroying fire.
