My husband took off work for a dentist appointment...and someone in the office forgot to put it into the computer system so he has to go another day. So, we're going to go hiking once it warms up a bit more.

Got a load of scrap wood burned today. I had my burn barrel full ready to go so I just added some accelerant, threw in a match, and let it go. Then I gradually fed in another load as it burned down. Now I can chop up some more of the larger pieces so they can go out and burn.

Also been fitting more soundproofing material. So far I've hung about 250 square feet of it.

Re familiarizing myself with hands on electronics, of late. Besides making homemade batteries, there are a few applications that I want to put together that require me to. So I cleared a space, pulled out the old breadboard and stash of components, and bought a few others. I've been doing mental exercises of the basics of Ohm's law, working out voltage across a load, and what resistance I need to get the desired current without frying it. Often that is a whole number divided by a decimal, so I've looked into how to do this in my head more easily without a calculator.

I bought some basic electronics stuff years ago, along with a book and made some headway, but I left it for a long time to put my head into other things. Now if I want to test certain applications I need the background, so that's what I'm doing.

Waiting for the bus. Bike got stolen. Glad I don't have nice things. Else it would annoy me. Also glad I didn't fix the brake.

I got up early, checked the battles to see how CH is doing and we're still losing by 7 votes. :(

More tinkering in my work room. I now have a strip of soundproofing material across the bottom of the wall, the full length of the room, with no seams at all. Even unrolling a sheet of material across the floor is trickier than it sounds, and for added excitement I needed to drill a few holes in it to thread power cables through. At present I have sockets strapped to cables with wire nuts where the sockets will one day be permanently mounted. So of course I had to kill the power to the circuit so I could do that without frying myself, which in turn meant I needed to run a power cord to the next room so I could operate my tools while the power was out.

Now I need to get the rest of the wall lined with this stuff. I hope I can do that unaided, it can be tricky working with heavy sheets trying to position them with any precision and hold them in place while I screw them into place with enough screws that the weight of the material won't pull itself off the screws.

I got up early to paint the 2nd coat in my husband's office. It's supposed to be beautiful again outside and I want to get to the park and walk.

Got my bike back! It wasn't stolen. My son just left it in front of the Chinese restaurant when he bought saucages and forgot he used the bike and walked back. I had already looked in front of the grocery store if it was maybe there, but it was in front of the Chinese restaurant. So glad I found it back. Really unhandy to not have a bike and walk to get groceries.

Got a bunch of random bits and pieces fixed around the house. I got the blade sharpened on the lawn mower (it was interesting trying to get it off, since the blade didn't want to stay still when I put a big wrench on it, and I ended up using a scrap of iron pipe to hold it in place), a couple of electrical jobs and some admin.

It feels like I've barely stopped since I got up, but a lot of small jobs tend to do that to days...

I'm going to the Amish lady's stand in a little bit to see if she has a cherry pie for Easter. My husband loves her cherry pies. My dad loves her apple pies but my dad isn't here lol I want to see what else she has to offer too because she's a great baker.

The Amish lady didn't have her stand set up :( My husband is checking on his way home from work. It's unusual because last year she was out in severe storms trying to sell her stuff for Easter.

A fair amount of tinkering, lately. I built a simple circuit using a potentiometer to run a small electric motor at varying speeds with an attached bit of magnetic tape to test a magnetic shielding application I've read about in power generation. Induction, basically, with stationary coil and magnet and the motor running the shield material between them with the idea of interrupting the field and creating electricity. The quick and dirty test was disappointing, but I just do this to save myself from doing a proper test, which requires a little more work. In hindsight, the proper test would probably be easier.

Making food and a ton of beer using what was originally a 2g starter with an expensive yeast. A packet of 11g costs me $8. My starter was a success which means I've already saved money on yeast, and plan to harvest and re-use it lots of times. For a habit that I've wanted to quit, it's a bit of irony that I've gained enough expertise in it way beyond former years in order to make quality beer fast and cheap.

After a run and a walk yesterday I started hanging some more soundproofing. I got one piece into position and secured into place but needed to trim it around the window frame. To do that meant taking down the window blind and it was late enough that I decided to kick it out until Monday. I don't want to take blinds down and leave them down overnight unless I really need to. I enjoy a bit of privacy while I'm working and while I've got everything ripped apart.

So on Monday I get to figure how many of the offcuts I can reuse, and how many new offcuts I'll be creating. It's handy that the strip across ground level needed some pieces cut out to fit around the window, so I can use those pieces above the window. The space between two windows is a little less than the width of the strip so I'll have some offcuts that will probably end up in the trash, which is a little frustrating given this stuff isn't cheap, but sometimes it can't be helped.

Once that is done I can trim corners, tape seams and move on. The weather is supposed to be nice this week so maybe I can get out and buy the lumber for restudding the next room around. That needs a reasonably nice day because I load it onto my roof bars and don't feel like fiddling with that, and with clamping them all together tightly and tying them down tightly and then untying, unclamping and unloading at home, on a rainy day.

Picked up a bunch of supplies for rewiring lamps. I bought one that doesn't work (needs rewiring) and stripped it down. Now I just need to replace the wiring and bulb holder and reassemble it. I have a couple of other lamps that need some TLC, and now I have the parts to do it.

In the train back home. We went to grandpa. My parents know each other for 70 years this year, my mom said. It was fun. It was lovely weather, so we took him outside. He hadn't been outside a long time. He loved it.
