You can always pick up friends but you can't always set them down. Lots of horror stories about this. My only close friend is my wife. There should not be room for any friend but her.

I have about 5 people I consider my closest friends. Then there is a group of friends who are almost in that group, but there still lacks that certain something where I still can't totally be myself around them at all times.

I keep the closest friends in a business relationship. Your spouse should be the only close friend.
