I don't know that either is objectively better.
I use a laptop because it's more powerful than my desktop. When it's time to upgrade I'm not sure whether I'll go for another laptop or a more powerful desktop. It's handy being able to pack a honking great hard drive into a desktop - it cost me $500 to put a 4TB SSD into my laptop - but very convenient to have something portable. Before I switched to using my laptop exclusively it got to be a real drag trying to make sure everything was synced between the two computers - if I went away for a trip I'd copy a pile of files one way, then had to make sure anything I changed while I was away was updated.
I know there's software to do that sort of thing now but as soon as you have a couple of files that were updated but you want to revert to the version on the other machine you have problems.
