Do you still have a house phone? If so why?

When we moved 9 years ago we elected to just use our cell phones and not pay for a house phone. We've had some issues with the cell tower not being strong enough at times and so I also got a Google Voice number that uses our wifi so that when family can't get a hold of me the normal way they have a back up.

I kinda have a house phone. It looks like a landline number but I ported it to a cellphone. In time I plan to port it to some form of VOIP.

It's handy being able to answer the house phone even when I'm not home. I'd hate to find my car's extended warranty had expired and I missed the call that warned me of the looming disaster.

We have a house phone using one of those fancy technologies so doesn't cost a whole lot. The reason being, about 10 years ago, I was in a rollover accident. I went to call my husband and realized his cell phone was left in the car. I had to call the house phone to let him know. We decided then we would always have one.

That was a good plan!

For us, I have a group chat with my neighbors so I can rely on at least one of them being home to help when needed.
