My choir sang this at Advent and I loved it! We haven't sung it at the church I'm at now, even though it's in the hymnal. I think the members might not know it? I love it not only for the melody but also because of the clear theology it expresses.

You have asked the wrong forum member. I do not usually do "bible proofs". That's another feature of Protestantism that really isn't characteristic of Catholic teaching. Mind you, Catholic teaching is in fact quite biblical, but all this proof texting seems childish.

Besides, this thread isn't really a "debate me or else" kind of thread. If you want bible verses open your own bible and read it.

Sir, are you not a Baptist; didn't the Baptists excoriate Luther and his baptism as Popish, are you not appealing to an enemy of the religion whose label you have appropriated? And the person to whom you responded is in fact a Lutheran who follows Luther's teaching on baptism and would likely not want to receive a second baptism as you may advocate for persons such as her.

I'm a Calvinist Baptist. I rely heavily on Luther's Bondage of the will". But I'm historically a victim of The Catholics and Lutherans, Reformed and Anglicans. So marvel not that I cannot trust some of you.

You tell a sad story, but it cannot be a story of your own life because Luther has been dead these past 400+ years and no Lutheran or Catholic has persecuted you physically; though I dare say that some have contradicted your erroneous teaching.

Popes are not impeccable, they are merely men, and make mistakes as men are inclined to do. You do not understand Catholic teaching so you present foolish errors that you have learned from someone who also does not know what the Catholic Church teaches. That can be cured, you can learn the truth. Look up the Catechism of the Catholic Church, or buy a copy. Read from the source and learn the truth.
