Speaking of substance, you repeatedly use these forums to stir things up. Nothing more. I want some genuine help here since I’m going to be investing in another Bible, none of which are cheap. Im going to stop responding to your posts.

The truth has a habit of 'stirring things up'.

Did Jesus Christ stir things up?

No, you want someone to tell you to do what you already want to do.

When 'price' and 'pretty' are what determines your Bible....have at it. It's the one you want anyway.

The Bible I ordered isn’t as pretty and feminine as the one I wanted but I wasn’t going to get an answer to my question until next week about if the Sinners Prayer was included in in original Bible so I went with this other company instead. I think that this one will be easier to clean if I get fingerprints on it, plus the gilded pages and name printed on it in gold leaf will make it more to my liking, the company is one I’m familiar with so that’s a bonus too. No pretty flowers, though.
I think you did well. I more ornate or fancier Bible might look too ostentatious. You will do quite well with the one you bought. Also isn't the ESV the one that the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod recently (say within a decade ago) adopted for their preferred version?

The main thing with a Bible is to use it. Many of us modern-day middle-class Christians have more bibles than we can readily name the number of, but often fail to read any of them regularly. I know I am guilty on that one.

Re the "Sinner's Prayer" are you wanting it in the Bibile, or prefer it not be in the Bible? Generally conservative Lutherans are not fond of the Sinners Prayer, considering it doctrinally problematical.

The ESV study bible is the best study bible I own. The ESV is a good translation and the study bible is choked full of historical and cultural information of the time when the books were written.

I actually think the NASB is a great translation. I use the ESV for study and currently and using the NASB as my "reading" Bible. The church I attend uses the ESV for readings.

I do have an NLT Bible that I used a couple of years ago to read through the Bible. I use it now mainly as a reference. If a passage is difficult I try to read it in different translations and the NLT gives a good easy to read translation.

I prefer the Sinner‘s Prayer not being in the Bible.

One of the reasons I wanted to buy a new Bible is because the one I currently use is gaudy. I thought it was pretty when I bought it a few years ago but now….not so much. It‘s a NIV Study Bible which I’ll continue to use the study notes when ihave a question about something, but use my new one as my primary Bible.

I do use it, though. In fact I finished reading it all the way through this week.

That is very good. One does need to read the entire Bible. I did it only twice and that probably 30 years ago. I am attempting to do it again. Just finished the Books of Moses and then jumped to the Psalms. Probably some NT then back to Joshua.

Last I heard, my brother in law is on his third time reading through the Bible.

If you get tired of the cover on this new bible, you can always buy a bible cover or case for it?

Test drive the different translations.

Here is a link to the Blue Letter Bible, an online Bible that allows you to change between various translations. Pick a section that you are familiar with and find important to you (perhaps John 3 or Ephesians 2) and read it in several versions. See which YOU prefer.

The BEST Bible translation is the one that you will actually read instead of decorate a shelf with. ;)

Speaking of Bibles, has anyone ever heard of the company I almost ordered from called Hosanna Revival? Is it a reputable company?

That doesn’t sound good. I’m not getting that message, though.

When that happens is mostly due to someone on the Administrative side or the host not taking care of something.

I've never heard of that company before.

I’ve never heard of it either. Hubby has warned me against ordering things from companies I haven’t heard of. I have heard of Christianbook and I’m pretty sure I’ve ordered from them before.

No. The best translation is the one that represents the original writings.

A translation can be more 'easily readable' yet full of mistakes and false representation.

One may enjoy reading cartoons rather than written words. Doesn't make it right or profitiable for the reader. Just means the reader is lazy and doesn't really care what they read...as long as they are pacified.

I've never heard of them before. A very quick Google search gave me the impression they are about encouraging people to read the Bible by creating beautiful Bibles. I may be cynical about this but it gave me the impression they were more about creating a pretty book than about encouraging people to read the contents.

My Bible lives permanently in a protective case so it makes little difference how attractive it is. Truth be told I seldom use a physical Bible these days anyway, I find it easier to work with an electronic version. It lets me put different versions side by side, put the text beside a commentary and keep the two in sync automatically and the like.

If you're the kind of person who won't read your Bible because it isn't pretty enough, perhaps you want a pretty Bible. But then if you're not reading it because it's not pretty enough the chances are if it's pretty you'll find another excuse to not read it.

I think it's because women tend to be drawn to pretty things and it's not a bad thing that a bible can be pretty. If it's something that brings happiness to the owner to see that pretty cover and it makes her want to read it more, then that's okay.

It's probably the same type of thing where women might choose a hairbrush that has more embellishment and want to use it because it makes her happy? Or an embellished guitar that gets played more than the plain one. Not that it has to be embellished, but because of the emotion tied to it due to the looks of it, the person prefers that one.

Sure, I get that women are more interested in pretty things than men are. I'm just not sure the extent that people would read, or not read, a book like the Bible based on how physically attractive it is.

If you had a pretty hairbrush that you loved and a plain hairbrush at the back of a drawer in the bathroom somewhere, and you lost your pretty hairbrush, I imagine you'd still brush your hair with the plain one rather than simply not brush your hair at all, right?
