The US didn't quite abandon the space program. Obama decided to stop a couple of short-range programs and instead concentrate on longer-range programs, and also encourage private ventures such as SpaceX. SpaceX provides a good alternative to a trampoline, though not yet to get to the moon. The SpaceX approach to the moon looks better to me than the NASA version, assuming they can make it work.
It is fair to say, however, that the NASA budget declined considerably under Clinton, a decline that none since have reversed, although Biden has proposed a major increase.
Oh yes it did. Obama refused the funds to NASA's Constellation programe which would have provided new and necessary rockets to replace the older ones involving the shuttle.
NASA lost the money. Thus people get laid off. That is 'people' who had the knowledge to do what they do.
And now, look at us. We can't get a rocket off the ground. And if we do, we got to send 'dummies' up in it. We don't even trust our own people to build a rocket. As well we shouldn't. I wouldn't either.
Obama, blacks, minorities, could care less about a 'space programe'. They want the money from the government given to them. And that is what the U.S. does. And they have to find it somewhere. So cut the space programe. And now, if you want to get into space. Get a bigger trampoline. All the while reveling in our glorious cause of diversity.
Who cares?...till you find out you've been left behind in the technology and space exploration, and have become vulnerable and dependent on other countries, because you want to make sure you elevate the blacks and minorities.
OK. You've elevated em. What has that got you. Answer: A country divided and stupid, and has to send dummies into space because it has dummies on the ground.
