Is it because there are more boosted people that it seems that it's the boosted who are likely to get covid right now? Of my Facebook friends, my unvaccinated friends are not getting covid. It's the vaccinated but moreso the boosted. Just today a friend who is boosted and wears TWO masks when going out caught covid and she's shocked that her symptoms are NOT light.

It's difficult getting exact stats from the government beyond them insisting that the unvaccinated are the ones hospitalized.

But I did some random search just now and a Michigan hospital posted their stats and here's what I found...this is for hospitalizations, ICU and ventilator stats:

Data for July 21, 2022

  • Total patients hospitalized (includes fewer than 5 pediatric patients): 31 (24*)
    Vaccinated: 21 (4*)
    Vaccinated plus booster: 15 (13*)
    Unvaccinated: 11 (7*)
  • Patients in the ICU: 4 (*2)
    Vaccinated: 3
    Vaccinated plus booster: 2 (2*)
    Unvaccinated: 1
  • Patients on ventilators: 1 (1*)
    Vaccinated: 1
    Vaccinated plus booster: 1 (1*)
    Unvaccinated: 0

Isn't that odd? Is it because there are more boosted people living in that area?

And I need to add that it's been over 2 years and I still don't know anyone personally who has died from covid (although I'm sure at some point that will happen). I have tons of unvaccinated friends and the media and government insisted they would die last winter. Go figure.

Here's another random article from a hospital with stats concerning hospitalizations and if you add the vaccinated and boosted, you get about the same amount of numbers as the unvaccinated:

As of Tuesday, July 26

Patients hospitalized with COVID-19

  • OHSU: 35
  • Hillsboro Medical Center: 8
  • OHSU Hospital and OHSU Health Hillsboro Medical Center hospitalization details:
    • 20 Not Fully Vaccinated
    • 18 Fully Vaccinated
    • 5 Fully Vaccinated with Booster
      • 0 de-isolated
      • 43 infectious
  • 5 Patients in ICU
    • 3 Not Fully Vaccinated
    • 1 Fully Vaccinated
    • 1 Fully Vaccinated with Booster
  • 2 Patients on a Ventilator
    • 1 Not Fully Vaccinated
    • 0 Fully Vaccinated
    • 1 Fully Vaccinated with Booster

Without knowing what proportion of the population is vaccinated and boosted and to what level it's hard to draw useful conclusions. It would also be useful to know what "not fully vaccinated" means - does it mean one shot rather than two, or does it mean no shots at all? Likewise comorbidities aren't listed, which can make quite a difference.

From the anecdotal data I can see based on the people I happen to know, the unvaccinated aren't affected while the vaccinated are affected. It's worth considering whether things like the level of interaction with other people affects that but I'm not seeing a big enough difference in behavior patterns between those who are and aren't vaccinated to consider it a major influence.

What's interesting is the way the vaccinated tend to talk about getting it. A vaccinated friend who tested positive made reference to how he "obviously let his guard down somewhere". I'm unvaccinated, haven't had my guard up in any meaningful sense since about May/June of 2020, and haven't had as much as a cold in over two years now.

I agree that there are so many factors that play into each person getting or hospitalized. I also wonder how many do the home test at the first sign of a cold and test positive now that you can get the tests for free who might not otherwise would not have tested. The main reason I tested was due to the fact that we were heading out to see our newborn granddaughter. Otherwise, I don't think I would have tested.

I have a lot of those free tests that were sent out and they're already expired :(

HEY! Remember this thread?

There is now proof that the vaccinated were the ones dying from covid more than the unvaccinated back when I created this thread:

The waning efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and increasingly contagious strains of the virus being spread to elderly and immunocompromised people have resulted in more deaths among those who have taken at least one vaccine dose, a Washington Post analysis published Wednesday finds.

"Fifty-eight percent of coronavirus deaths in August were people who were vaccinated or boosted," the Post reported.

58% ...that's a lot different than what they were trying to tell us at the time.

As I understand it (and that ain't saying much) no one claims that being vaccinated means not getting the disease, it means being less likely to be hospitalized and dying.

ONE example (me) means nothing... but I'm fully vaccinated but I got Covid. As the most mild and short cold-like thing I've ever had in my life. Lasted like 2 days. Hardly noticed. But I did test postive for it. I got it but didn't go to the hospital or die.

I think the key issue is that there aren't any vaccines that are 100% effective, or that have 0% chance of side effects. But with this vaccine it seems it doesn't make a whole lot of difference to the chance you'll get the disease, it's just that if you are vaccinated you would hope for a milder case. The trouble is that this vaccine seems to have made a reasonable difference at first but now doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference to anything.

If 58% of the people dying are vaccinated (as per Lamb's post above) and the vaccinated make up something like 85-90% of the population, that doesn't speak particularly highly of the vaccine. Obviously there's so much more to things than vaccine status - those who are vaccinated are more likely to be older and/or have comorbidities but even so it's not exactly a great advert for the vaccine's effectiveness.
