Would you forgive someone after knowing they have been unfaithful to you? (Why/Why Not)

Not easily. Why should I?
It depends however on the reasons, whether they are truly sorry. The likelihood of them ever doing it again.
Overall I would break the relationship.

I would hope so. I've learned over the years that thinking I might behave in a certain circumstance in a specific way isn't always a given despite strong convictions at one time or another. Our ever changing context can impact our views perhaps beyond what we may realize at least at times if not more often than not.

Unfaithfulness, in the worst scenario, is a very repulsive thing. Why should it be forgiven?
I couldn't bear it.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us

God forgives us all our sins, even the most repulsive ones, so we should strive to forgive people as well. It might take years and years to eventually come to that.

I've never been cheated on, at least not with someone I was deeply involved with, so it's not so easy for me to say.

Your questions tend to be very binary/yes or no/black or white. This is something that I could easily say "yes, I would forgive" (even though it may be "eventually") but that doesn't mean I'd stay with them. It would depend on a lot of factors.

For starters, even though God requires us to forgive "70X7", that doesn't mean we need to put ourselves in a situation where we are constantly challenged to do so. It is certainly O K to forgive and then move on if this is the best road to peace.

Surely repentance from the guilty one is necessary? Just like us, we are forgiven when we pray with contrition.
I just distance myself from people who are toxic.

Jesus died on the cross for your sins before you were born. Your sins are forgiven because of His death on the cross. When you sin, the Holy Spirit convicts you of that sin and you turn to God in repentance and are forgiven. It's not a new forgiveness, but from the cross...before you were born.

So can you forgive before someone repents? Yes, if you feel so inclined to do so. That's why forgiveness is not earned but a gift.

All very true. It takes great strength and maturity of spirit to actually do it though.

It does!! I'm not at that level yet but that would be a goal if it ever happened to me.

If everything quoted here is true, then Messiah is in error when He teaches:

"Forgive, and you will be forgiven....
"If you do not forgive men their sins against you, your Heavenly father will not forgive your sins...."

The wording is pretty clear it's not a gift or "if one feels like it" type of thing - rather a requirement.

So was Messiah in error, or is the response to this that it only applied in the brief period before the cross?

The Law says that we have to be perfect...that means to forgive perfectly. Jesus pointed that out because none of the people could achieve that. So He died on the cross and our sins are forgiven. Those who believe will have eternal life. Those who believe and are baptized are clothed in Jesus and that means that His perfection is ours and we lack nothing.

Where does the law say to "be perfect"? Not saying it doesn't, I'd just like to know where.

Jesus also says "be ye perfect".

...and at the same time "forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us"

So it seems to me that he expects perfection, recognizes that we will fail at times, and places our forgiveness squarely on whether we forgive others.

"forgive perfectly"

suggests that forgiveness can be partial or incomplete. Like maybe a 50% forgiveness or something. I've never heard of such a thing as it relates to a particular sin to be forgiven an individual.

And then there is this, which references your point:

Matt 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

I've always found this curious because of the present tense in which Jesus speaks it. Not "will be shed" but "is shed". The bread also is not "will be my body" but instead "is my body", all of this taking place before the cross.

Sin has to be forgiven before we can have eternal life with God...which is why perfection is demanded by God's Law. You already quoted Jesus saying to be perfect. Jesus knew that only He could be perfect so the Law accuses us of our fallen nature.
