Anything where the drop in quality is unacceptable.

On a regular basis that includes coffee. The place I normally get my coffee charges me $16 for a 2lb bag of roasted beans. A local store charges $5 for a 2lb bag of ground coffee. I tried it, I'd rather pay the extra.

My Dad told me you don’t cheap out on anything that goes underneath you: tires, mattress, shoes, etc.

Great advice!

I won't buy a cheap car but I won't buy the expensive one either.

There are some foods I like to buy that I won't buy cheap. Even cheap bacon doesn't taste the same as some of the name brands. How can you mess up bacon?

I guess with a lot of that stuff it's down to choosing an appropriate price point. I wouldn't buy cheap remolded tires for my car but I don't need the ultra-speed rated options either.

Curiously the most comfortable footwear I've found in a while are the running shoes I get for $50. They are comfortable, they are good for 500-odd miles of running and after that I use them for walking and working on the house. My old pair must have nearly 1000 miles on them now, the heels are worn to the point I don't use them for running outdoors but they are fine for walking and climbing around in the attic.
