Is the book of Tobit endorsing witchcraft?

You know, back in 1693, they had these Salem Witch trials. Salem, Massachusetts was a town of Puritans, who were a very religious people, and witchcraft was illegal. Many people were jailed and put to death for simply being accused of witchcraft.

But today, it’s legal. It’s mostly a secular society now, where you can do what you want. And there’s tons of YouTube channels where people show off all their ways of practicing witchcraft. There’s no threat of them being jailed or put to death for it. It’s not like it was back in Puritan days.

I’ve checked out a few of these videos, and yet I have not seen a single one of them burning the inner organs of an animal. I haven’t found any that burn fish guts to drive away demons.

Christians say that Tobit is endorsing witchcraft for burning fish guts on a fire to drive away a demon.

And yet, I cannot find ONE example of witches doing this. ZERO!

But I CAN find an example in the Bible, in the book of Leviticus, saying to burn the inner organs of a sheep, saying that it’s a pleasing aroma unto the Lord. It says to take the kidneys and liver of a sheep, clean them, and burn them on a fire.

Now, they say that Tobit is unbiblical and endorsing witchcraft for saying to burn animal organs. But there’s no examples of witches burning animal organs, while there IS an example of the Bible saying to burn animal organs.

And this is supposed to make sense?

I suspect you can find Christians who believe they were abducted by purple aliens from Venus... I'm just not sure what that's suppose to prove. I'm just not sure I agree with you that every case of some Christian holding to some opinion is ergo significant or proves anything at all.

If YOU just happen to be of that (or any other) personal opinion, then say so. Perhaps you think Tobit DOES or does NOT support frying fish for dinner.... okay.... not sure why that matters but hey everyone's entitled to their opinion (no matter how irrelevant) and CH is a very open website (although you put this in the DENOMINATION forum so I think you need to identify which denominations consider fish frying to be witchcraft and that teach that Tobit endorses fried fish. Otherwise, I think you put this in the wrong forum).

By the way, I like fried fish. Fish and chips is great! My former Catholic parish used to have a fish fry every Friday during Lent, all-you-could-eat of both for one low price! I loved it.

I'm rather partial to fried fish too but prefer the guts to be removed before frying. If the guts are thrown in the trash, fed to the local cats or incinerated as a burnt offering makes little odds to me. I won't be burning them so what anyone else does is their business.

I have to agree with Josiah, if a few people hold to an opinion it doesn't make the opinion correct or even significant. You are free to think they are right, you are free to think they are wrong. There's little point taking up a discussion about what some unspecified people believe in a forum where they are unlikely to know you're even talking about them.

Good point. I too prefer to forgo the guts. Bones, too. But that's just me; I ain't saying it's a sin or wrong or unbiblical to eat fish guts or bones (just kinda disgusting). If some Christian wants to eat fried fish guts, that's okay (but I'll pass).

I like broiled salmon. It’s the best.

There’s a dozen or so videos on YouTube where different Bible teachers and pastors say that when Tobit said burning fish guts drives away demons, that’s witchcraft.

I can link the videos if you want.

I love "fish and chips" One of England's best exports.

But I want tartar sauce (not vinegar)... and coleslaw (not those mashed peas).

Lots of people put tartar sauce on fish and chips. I'm not one of them, I want the whole lot swimming in vinegar and doused with salt. I never saw the attraction to mushy peas, they look pretty gross to me. I just want the fish and chips, no need for sides. Except maybe a pickled onion or two.
