What are some good scriptural insights that you get out of the book of Judith?

Here’s one thing I find really cool about the holy, canonical book of Judith:

In Genesis, it says that the seed of the woman will crush the head of the serpent. And here we find in the book of Judith, it’s a woman who cuts off the head of Holofernes, the enemy general. And this takes place only a few generations before Jesus shows up, the one who truly crushes the head of the enemy -Satan, that is- that ancient serpent of old.

I also think Judith’s selflessness is really honorable. She risked her own life and safety in order to save her countrymen. That’s ultimate selfless behavior.

There have been MANY, MANY books I've read that have spiritually blessed me. MANY.

Of course, that's entirely, completely irrelevant to whether any or all of those must therefore be considered by all Christians and Jews as inerrant, canonical, divinely-inscripturated words of God (Scripture) and the law should mandate that every publisher include any or all of those in any tome with "BIBLE" written on the cover.

Yup. Have you read "The Spirituality of the Cross" by Dr. Gene Edward Veith? I've read it several times. It has had a huge impact on my faith and spirituality. My parish gives a copy of it to our Sunday guests. GREAT book! I could list a dozen more books that have had a very big impact on my life, my faith, my understanding.


Of course, that's entirely, completely irrelevant to whether any or all of those must therefore be considered by all Christians and Jews as inerrant, canonical/normative, divinely-inscripturated words of God (Scripture).

Yup. Have you read "The Spirituality of the Cross" by Dr. Gene Edward Veith? I've read it several times. It has had a huge impact on my faith and spirituality. My parish gives a copy of it to our Sunday guests. GREAT book! I could list a dozen more books that have had a very big impact on my life, my faith, my understanding.

It is not related at all, but the last few posts seemed to be heading into “books I like” territory.

What are some good scriptural insights that you get out of the book of Judith?

None that I can remember off the top of my head.....

Lie atpollard and others, there ARE books - a LOT of them - that have had a very profound impact on my faith and life, but.... no..... I'm not sure Judith would be on that list, although hers is a stunning story.

And of course, none of this has any relevance whatsoever to whether a writing is or is not The inerrant, fully/equally canonical, divinely-inscripturated words of God. No relevance whatsoever. A point I suspect atpollard (and others) were making. BUT, my brother, if the Prayer of Jabez or Left Behind or Love Story were inspirational or informational or transformational for YOU, then I rejoice! Good!
