Do you tend to keep your computer/laptop on throughout the day or do you shut it off?

I tend to leave it on, with a cleaning and restart every week or so.

I tend to leave them all on. I hibernate my laptop and restart my windows machine at least once a week or when it's giving me trouble. My Linux boxes are also servers (file, media. FTP, web...) and I haven't turned them off in over a year.

I turn my laptop off nightly. It doesn't like to come out of hybernation and it's an ASUS known problem.

If I'm expecting to use my laptop again within anything less than a couple of hours or so I leave it to run, otherwise I hibernate it.

When I primarily used a desktop I typically just let it run all the time. Then my UPS failed and it shut down unexpectedly, causing me a lot of hassle to recover everything. After that I took to hibernating it when I wasn't using it.

I tend to keep my Laptop running 24/7. By keeping the device on, I don't have to wait for the PC to boot up when I want to check something quickly; plus, I also gain money from sharing my unused internet data with Honeygain. It's a win-win!

How often do you allow the computer to do updates which usually require a shut down or reboot?

Throughout the day, I leave it on.

I do a total shutdown nightly.

I only ever apply updates when I've got a reasonable handle on what they will do and time to let them install. I've seen enough reports of updates breaking things that I don't allow a computer to apply updates without my explicit permission.
