What we are is a people that is still evolving and that evolution has profoundly affected not just our bodies but our psyches as well. The world in which we evolved was a difficult and dagerous one and mere survival was of the highest priority. Selfishness became a part of who we are as a survival mechanism. This selfish instinct is no longer as necessary as in our savage past but it is still powerful. If there is an "Original Sin", this is it. Of course it is not a sin really but an innate part of our nature and it can be overcome.

Money & greed, without a doubt. It's a number trap - people are never satisfied with the number in their bank account, their age, or how many days they work in a week. People just need to learn and appreciate what they have, not what they could have.

Yeah. But money also solves a lot of problems in the real world. It's solved a lot of my problems. Hell, if you don't pay your mortgage or car payment, the bank will just haul it off and that's on you. Like Tom Cruise once stated back in 2001.

My father wrote about this in his book. Chapter 1... Page 1... Paragraph 1: "What is the answer to 99 out of 100 questions?... Money".

St. Augustine suggested pride.... I guess I'd agree. The desire to replace the Lord with self....self centeredness... self-promotion...

The root of all evil is rebellion.

The first sin is rebellion against God's command. It was the only command
in the Garden, and it concerns what was eaten.

The first villain is a snake, and what would a completely carnivorous animal know of eating fruit? ;)

So simple a child could understand it, but completely confounding the "wise".

It has to be money, in my opinion. The love and "need" for it leads to a lot of other sins like greed. It is definitely the root of all evil

Yes. There's that. I just don't know why churches and a book calls money evil and then they turn around and accept donations. And then of course when I was younger and being forced to take part in religion and attend church by my parents, there was this youth pastor that was encouraging me to spend all of my earnings on the offering plate. He said I didn't need that money. But I did need it. Really it looks and sounds like a double standard to me.
