The 7 headed beast are the seven hills (Rome) that the whore sits on, the seven heads are also the 7 kings of Rome that support her (the Roman empire)
5 have fallen, the last one being Nero but his symbolic HEAD will be healed, meaning that another round of mass persecution is yet to come (this will be the 8th King who is part of the seven, he will be the newly healed HEAD)
The 6th (who IS) was Vespasian, this was the current King of Rome during John's letters, he lasted from 69 to 79ad
The 7th (not yet) would be Titus from 79 to 81, and the 8th King (who was but is not, who is part of the seven) is Domitian who is the healed HEAD.
Domitian like Nero would start another mass persecution of Christians.
Domitian was a militant who had no tolerance for anyone who disagreed with him, meaning he expected everyone to do as he says one of which was his instituting the worship or obedience to the Imperial Cult (The Flavians).
666 refers to the beast itself, with each head representing a King/Man, the number John uses 666 signifies that numbers are related to names, only emperors names were on their coins and statues, John is hinting to the Christians to not take part of Rome's festivals, feast and worship when the 8th King causes all to take part in it.
Taking the mark means worshipping of the beast (literally the Roman Empire) and not God, by not accepting the "mark" you may be jailed or even killed for your faith in Christ at the hands of Rome.

About the Temple, since Vespasian IS and thus was the current emperor during Johns letters then this takes place from 69-79, John didn't make mention of the Temple being destroyed so this might have been right at the time he was in patmos, he did say that in the vision he saw no temple

With a consideration of Torah study to show oneself approved have you ever compared the contrast of 7 heads of bondage to a 7th yr of release?

Just a thought.

Explore the numbers of heads, crowns, and a person will find something to defend against with spiritual armor.

Blessings Always
