Will you wear goggles with your mask because Fauci says so? I don't understand what his point is since the mask isn't protecting ME. It's protecting those around me in case I have the virus! Sure goggles might protect me from the virus, but my mask won't. He insinuates that the mask is protecting us. Why is such conflicting information being given?

It's hard to know just what a bit of cloth is supposed to achieve. Sometimes those who supposedly know these things say the mask is about protecting those around us, other times they say it's about protecting us. Of course if it's about protecting us it leaves a clear option for people to express a feeling of safety by not wearing it, while if it's about protecting those around us the act of not wearing a mask can be presented as being equivalent to carrying a sign that you don't care if the people around you die horribly.

It seems to me that if the mask is about catching exhaled droplets then your mask will catch them just as effectively as my mask will but apparently these days even questioning official advice is considered some form of science denial. And that's before the question that apparently isn't settled (even as we're told the science is "getting clearer by the day") about whether aerosolised particles can transmit the virus.

As you say it seems absurd to wear a scrap of cloth over your face that doesn't protect you while then worrying about goggles that "may" offer some additional protection. That will be fun in the summer months - I can hardly wait to see people driving their cars with nobody else in the vehicle, wearing safety goggles that mist up.

I wonder how long it will be before the fuhrer mandates them.

He doesn't seem to have suggested that everyone do it, just said that it would provide increased protection. I'm sure that's true. Doesn't mean I'll do it. Most models say that having everyone wear a mask would be enough to keep the virus in control.

It wasn't that long ago he said we shouldn't wear masks but now everywhere you go it's expected you'll wear them, with virtually no regard to reasons not to wear them or even whether they are useful in any given situation.
