One of the theologians that I "watch" is Dr. Jordan B Cooper
www.jordanbcooper.com https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQztlwsK5pV45U8vMtfbWjg

I frequent his website. I've simply found him to be insightful and helpful.
There ARE times he goes way over my head and times I don't fully agree, but mostly he helps.

I'll put below one recent video I watched. This one is on Eastern Orthodoxy. There have been a few rather famous Lutherans who have crossed over to Orthodoxy, and I've had some experience with Orthodox brothers and sisters. In my undergrad years, I had a good friend who was very Greek and very Greek Orthodox; she and I had many conversations around the time I was converting from Catholicism to Lutheranism and somewhat after that. I always admired her sense of mystery, the sense of awe, the emphasis on worship, and while she would have directed me to Orthdoxy, she was certainly affirming of my move out of Catholicism to Lutheranism, which she admired at many points. For a brief time, I was active at an Orthodox site (two, actually) and had some good conversations with a couple of priests there. And I so recall being at your popular Greek Festival events at a Greek Orthodox Church and quite by accident had a rather long and very, very pleasent conversation with the priest and his wife - very enlightening and helpful (just wonderful people). Anyway Dr. Cooper addresses the Orthodox perspective a bit in the video below. Just a taste of his stuff. He has MANY videos on MANY topics.

What about YOU? Do you have a theologian on the 'net that has been particularly helpful to you?

On the net, Tom Wright. But most theologians and scholars don't have much net presence.

Jonathan Fisk is someone I trust to get it right in his teachings. I love his videos and how he explains things simply.

As soon as I see someone described, on what appears to be his own web site, as "one of the 20th century's foremost pastors" it discourages me from exploring further.

I see it on web sites, book forewords, all over the place. Gushing effusive praise about how great someone is. Even within the church we see people wearing fancy robes based on their rank. Didn't someone visit a few centuries ago and tell us we shouldn't be like that?

I agree with you. But in this case Stedman is dead (1992), so this isn't self-promotion. I have no idea whether it's deserved, as I've never heard of him.

He didn't write that about himself. He passed away many years ago.

I'd hope he didn't write it about himself but whoever wrote it seems rather presumptuous, given how many pastors there must have been during the 20th century.

It seems to me that sort of thing falls under the "don't tell me, show me" category. Post his teachings without the grand claims and let readers decide whether they like what he is offering.
