The Lord has called my mother home

I haven't been on the site for a while because we had a family emergency and I drove out by myself 12 hours to visit my mom while she was in the hospital. The situation was so bad that she passed away soon after I arrived. Her cancer had been eliminated but she developed a blood clot that couldn't be taken care of because of other problems with her health.

I found mourning to be a weird process. Aside from a wave of initial grief I found the immediate aftermath to be much easier than I expected, but then found that random things would prompt memories and I'd get emotional about the most random things, just because they triggered memories in unexpected ways.

Yes, she had been ill and we weren't sure until after she passed just how long she had the blood clot in her liver until I started reading back through some of her old text messages. All the symptoms were right there but we attributed them to other things.

For me it almost felt callous to think that, on a day-to-day basis, my life wasn't all that different after my mother passed. The simple reality was that it was more than 15 years since I'd left home and I simply didn't interact with my parents every day - we'd talk on the phone every several days but not daily. Over time I found it was the really stupid stuff about her that I started to really miss, even some of her quirks that I found annoying when she was living became things I desperately missed not having once she had passed.

My sister and I set aside some clothes of our mom's to have someone make up memory bears using those articles. We just don't know who does them yet and we see there are people on Etsy but we'd rather pay someone we know first.
