What things are socially acceptable where you live that might not be in other areas? How about the reverse?

What things are socially acceptable where you live that might not be in other areas? How about the reverse?

One example: In Southern California beach towns, guys (well, and girls) can wear shorts pretty much all the time, anywhere. Obviously, there are exceptions: weddings and funerals (in most cases), very upscale restaurants, and probably the work place (especially girls). Doesn't mean they SHOULD but they can. In most areas, a bit more traditional/formal dress is expected.
