i think they ..like america, have a bunch of different motives . one of them to be honing their battle skills on foreign soil
For the time being at least the fighter aircraft of the various Air Forces that are fighting in an around Syria seem to be on a fairly even par, but once the Russians begin to introduce their new Sukhoi PAK FA fighter (or T50), then this will change the balance of air power not only within Syria but with Europe as well as the new generation of US and Euro fighters cannot match it. This poses the potential risk that in the next few years that some gung-ho Russian pilot might decide to have a bit of fun with a US or Australian F35 which unless luck is on our side then our pilots probably have little chance of survival.

As for the beleaguered F-35 which Australia is unfortunately purchasing from the US, it means that our Air Force will be unable to defend us against any country that purchases the new Russian T-50. I have no immediate concerns with the Russian Federation flying these aircraft, but I understand that our neighbour Indonesia is going to buy some modified T-50’s which means Australia will be essentially defenceless if a future Indonesian government decides to create any trouble in our northern regions.

As for the Russian Federation in Syria, if their battle plans and equipment are up to the task (which has to be proven), then they may find themselves engaging more Islamo-terrorists in other parts of the Middle East; this will certainly not please the US or NATO which in all probabilty will see these forces engaging in less than friendly terms.

It makes me wonder why everyone is so interested in Syria.
Why are we so interested; I would have thought that the presence of US, Russian, Chinese, Australian (and probably NATO forces in the future) would indicate that each of the self-interests of these groups will eventually collide in maybe one big bang. Will it be this year, next year or maybe in a decade, who knows, but now that we have a Chinese aircraft carrier along with Chinese troops engaging in the Middle East, I would be inclined to say that the ground for Armageddon is now being prepared. Let's hope that I am wrong and of course this is one of those times where I would relish being wrong!

Thanks did not know about this, it explains a lot
If this is the case, and it most likely is, then the US government might lose some interest with Syria now that their companies have lost any chance of seizing Syrian oil. Though any benefit to the Russian Federation will have to be long term as the price of oil at this point of time is rather low and as Russia has an abundance of both oil and gas then I suppose that they would be content just to know that US oil companies would be unable to seize any Syrian oil - no wonder the US is upset with the intervention of both Russia and China; heck, I still can't get over the idea that the Chinese have an aircraft carrier stationed in a Mediterranean Port, will this be a prelude to where China over the next few years might decide to send a few battalions of troops to the Middle East - that's very scary indeed!

I do believe that this is a prelude to many things

Have you all heard of The Samson Option? It is Israel's strategy to never again be conquered. They have nuclear weapons and they have agreed to release their entire arsenal to take out their enemies if it comes down to them being annihilated. I believe the Bible speaks about something like that happening.

Zec. 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.

15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.

Ezek 39:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.

12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.

13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord God.

14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.

15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog.

16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.

17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord God; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.

18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.

19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.

20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord God.

21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.

22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day and forward.

Yep. But I believe this may be what happens in Damascus. Why? Because the Word of our Father will surely come to pass. The very city of Damascus will be laid to waste, never to rise again. It will cease, stop being a city, but will become a heap of ruins. It sounds harsh but it will happen according to our Father's command.

Russia is protecting its "national interest" in much the same way that the USA and the European Union have protected their "national interest".

It sure is a scary situation with all the major powers in play.

Hey did anyone notice that the vast majority of the Druze religion is based in Syria? I just realized what this Faith is. This is significant.

Did anyone notice how many schools of thought the Druze Faith is?

Significant stuff people.

We really must pray and that God for everything. We need to be bringing as many into the folds of God as possible as Christians.

Faith in selfless Unity for Good.

The problem with the ongoing US support of the terrorists in Syria is that that Christians are leaving are being forced to leave in droves, which is the same problem that occurred in recent years in Iraq. Unless the various Islamo-terrorists and IS are quickly curtailed, there will be very few Christians living in this part of the world.

unbelief appears to be the mainstay of absent faith

Sort of like drunkenness appears to be the mainstay of excessive alcohol consumption?

Except belief does occur without faith, it just occurs for things about which there is actual evidence. It's called reasoning. :)
