Wondering if the sleet and freezing rain will stop any time soon. The drive will need clearing but I don't have anything suitable to wear to protect me from freezing rain. Maybe I'll use the same approach as yesterday and let Mother Nature do the honors.

I really like the idea of having the driveway relaid with piped fluid underneath, so that a furnace can heat the fluid and melt the ice from below. Seems like a great way to save a lot of effort, but I don't know that I even want to know how much it would cost to install another furnace, not to mention how much oil it would take to actually melt the ice from the driveway.

Do you have a really long driveway? I think it would be way out of my budget to get a heated driveway because ours is pretty long.

The driveway will need repaving before too awful long anyway. It seems very small when trying to get people parked on it, and very long when shoveling snow from it. Realistically speaking I suspect the cost of paying some local teenagers to shovel snow would take many years before it racked up the same bill as a new furnace and all the heating oil it would take to warm a new driveway.

I had a snow sandwich today. I spent a couple of hours this morning running my angle grinder making a horrible mess, then stopped for lunch and to recharge the battery on it, then was just about to start and realized the neighbors were shoveling the driveway so went out to help them (it's a slightly odd-shaped shared driveway), then got back to running the angle grinder. Once I'd done all the grinding I used my air compressor to blow the dust out of a load of corners and ran the shop vac over the floor twice. Surprisingly, by the time I'd finished the floor in one room more dust was already settling. It was kinda fun using the air compressor to blow dust off the floor lamp I'm using in there.

For good measure along the way I found a couple more patches of mortar that weren't sound, including one of my own early efforts at filling a space. That's another place the air compressor is handy - I use a wire brush to clean the area before putting new cement in there and the compressor is great at blowing out any surplus. It's also good at blowing the dust from the grinder off the walls and wall studs when I'm finished running it. And rather than walking around covered in dust, I can use it to blow the dust off my arms, my gloves, my respirator filters, and my clothes. Sadly it doesn't get the dust out of my hair, it takes several washes in the shower to achieve that.

And then, having cleaned everything up, I noticed another area that I think I'm going to have to grind. It can wait until tomorrow. I'm showered now, battery is back on charge so it's fully charged and ready to roll tomorrow morning, and then hopefully I can put this horrendous part of the house behind me once and for all.

What is encouraging is that my work spaces aren't dropping below 49-50 degrees any more. Even fairly recently they'd drop into the mid 40s when it was in the high 20s outside. So it seems my work is bearing fruit, even if slowly. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all looks once I've got insulation panels throughout an entire room.

Uh oh. But you're awake now and all is well, right?

Yeah, all was good. Took me a minute to get my bearings again. I knew where I was, but really alarming.

Just got off the late shift and trying to wind down hoping I will fall asleep good enough to wake up for the morning ****. Uhh, as long as I prep my close and take a good shower and brush my teeth and drink my coffee I should be alright, it takes me about 40 minutes to wake up fully alert to start me day.. Plug in a podcast usually some debate and get at it.
Insomnia sucks and although I wake up a few hours a night I do ended falling back to sleep, I wish I was a light sleeper lol. Just not looking forward to telling my mind to shut up lol :)

Slightly groggy morning today. I think it was just a little too much fun with the concrete dust yesterday. I need to find me some slightly better gear, my safety glasses keep probably 99.9% of the crud out of my eyes but every once in a while I get dust in my eyes and I'm not sure how it does it.

I decided that I need to grind the walls in the room above earlier than originally planned. When I do that it's going to create more clouds of dust and a lot of it is going to end up in the room I've just been working on, so I'd rather get it out of the way before I get busy doing what I need to do to finish off that room. Time to get some more dust sheets and really get my money's worth out of my new grinding wheel. I've got a big box fan that will help suck dust out of the room as I work, and before I start I'll cover stuff with dust sheets, tape up drawers and doors, and use a sacrificial bed sheet to stop dust getting out from under the door into the room.

Good job I've got plenty of masking tape on hand!

I'm a hopeless romantic so today I took my wife to..... the hardware store.

Seriously, we went to the hardware store. Twice as it happens. The first time looking for something they couldn't sell me, and the second time on the way home from running errands because I forgot something I needed. So there. Top that if you can :)

Getting use to a new work schedule this week. I was working in an office up until a week and a half ago. Now, I spend only about two hours a week in the office and see clients in the community. So, I mainly work out of my home and then go see clients at their home. So, big change to deal with and then on top of that my son got a job this week (his first), so I have to take him to work and pick him up.
