Trying to muster the mental energy to haul a big pile of laths out back to burn them. Yesterday I took another 600lb of stuff to the landfill - 22 bags of assorted trash (mostly rubble from the ceiling) and a stack of old ceiling tiles about six feet high. I had a box of ripped up old roofing felt and an old hose I wanted to get rid of but they wouldn't fit in the car.

I got my laths burned, and the last of the ceiling tiles that didn't fit in the car last night. Now everything is well below the top of my burn barrel so I've left it to burn and smolder down. By this evening it should be little more than a pile of ash in the bottom. That will be good.

Now I'm debating whether to go for a walk in the woods or try to figure out how best to rearrange everything in the areas I've been working so I can get at the ceiling in the next room and get it pulled down. That room is slightly easier because it has an external door, so I can come and go without tracking crud through the house. It also means I can carry bags of rubble straight outside rather than having to stack them inside. The ceiling in that room is probably going to be another 15 bags worth, which means another trip to the landfill. I can use that trip to get rid of my box of ceiling felt and the old hose.

Today I went shopping. Loaded up on various seeds, nuts, beans, vegetables and fruit along with a few other items.

Though that's not really what I wanted to write about. A few days ago I took apart my computer for the first time. Not the first time I've done that, just the first time in a long time...many years. There was a rattling noise in it so I suspected fan. It's a very small computer, not the usual laptop or desktop. Got in, removed the Ram and various plugged in features, unscrewed the PCB and attached fan. Dirty, with black scoring. Cleaned up and put it all back together.

Booted. Sigh of relief, computer still works, and no more noise. Working around computers the last number of months and around people who do it every day has indeed been a blessing, even if repair is not my main duty there. :)

A lot of dirt inside a computer can really mess it up. My husband is IT and used to occasionally open the casing up to vacuum the innards. It helps lengthen the lifespan of the fan definitely.

I once fixed a friend's laptop, which had become unusable. It was overheating and from there it wouldn't do anything useful. When I opened it up I found a huge dust bunny blocking the air vent so the fan could suck air in but couldn't blow it out anywhere. Once I removed that the laptop worked just fine.

I've seen a few desktops with varying levels of overheating issue becauase of dust. One of them had so much dust packed between the fins of the heatsink it took a screwdriver to get it out. Often a quick spray with compressed air cleans it out, but not this one.

I had hoped to get out for a walk in the woods but the heat levels are rising to the point I don't really want to be hiking up steep trails. So I'll probably find something to do around the house. I've got some wood to move out of the way and I need to shift a big pile of insulation panels so I can work around where they are. I just run out of space to put stuff, because 8x4 sheets are difficult to work with - they don't bend to go round corners. I hope I can get away with moving them into the adjacent room and throwing a dust sheet over them - that would be hugely convenient. Once I've pulled the ceiling down from above them I can put them back where they currently are. That will be another load to take to the tip and hopefully that will be it for a while. I think my total so far is in the region of 2 tons, not counting the piles of laths and ceiling tiles that met their end in my burn barrel.

I haven't been running all week due to an injury with my achilles tendon. I wanted really bad to go to the lake and at least walk, but stayed home. I hope it gets better quickly. I have a 5k in less than a month

I finally managed to get a ceiling light fixture removed. I need to pull the ceiling down around it and needed it out of the way. But I couldn't for the life of me figure out how it was attached to the ceiling.

In the end, having pulled the ceiling down around it and identified the cables feeding it, I turned off the power, cut the cables, connected them to a temporary light fitting, and turned the power back on. That gave me light in the area so I could work more easily, and meant I could jiggle the thing around without having to worry that I'd touch the wrong thing. So now that fitting is down. I'll probably use it somewhere else, I quite like it.

I also took down another light fitting that has been disconnected for a while now. I hate it, my wife hates it, so that's in the trash now. There was no need to take it down now but I had the ladder out and figured I'd take it out and be done with it.

I'm waiting for my daughter to wake up. She moved in with us at the beginning of August and I'm spending as much time with her as I can. We're doing a lot of fun things and going for many long walks!
