Corolla has been a fairly quiet beach when I have been there. Nags Head and the area around Kitty Hawk is more crowded. Most people who go to the beach there also have beach houses in the area, so they just walk to the beach. It can get crowded on the weekends when people are leaving their rentals and other people are coming in.

I don't do beaches on weekends or holidays! There was one year we went to the Indiana Dunes on Memorial Day but we were there about 8 in the morning before the crowds hit. Since I don't spend the entire day at the beach, when we left around lunch time there was a long line out to the expressway of cars trying to get in. There isn't enough room in the parking lots for all those people so I don't know how long they waited unless they drove to the campsites and walked down long trails to get to the beach areas but then those areas aren't guarded by life guards.
