I haven't seen a Portals of Prayer book in a few years. My previous church always had them laid out on a shelf for the congregation.

I was introduced to that little tri- monthly booklet when I first started taking instruction at Hope Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, FL. As soon as I transferred my membership back up here to Manassas, VA, I asked about POP and I saw that they were kept in a very inconspicuous niche on a little table in the narthex. I do enjoy reading the daily homiletics right before bed.

Today, I got up, saw a trapped wasp in my bedroom window, went downstairs, ate breakfast, had my coffee and got online.I will shortly do my morning devotions.

Came into the office this morning to see my 9 am appointment and he hasn't shown up, so I'm just sitting here waiting for my next appointment to come in.

Looking at the weather trying to gauge whether to go for a walk in the woods. The forecast is calling for "showers" at 1pm and 3pm but sadly gives no useful information whether "showers" mean drizzle for 5 minutes or monsoon-like showers for 25 minutes. I don't mind walking in light rain but don't care to get myself drenched.

If I don't go for a walk I'll probably take the chance to do battle with my radiators. Once I can get them off the walls I can press on with my demolition and rebuilding work. I need to clear some space so I can pull a piece of rolled up carpet out of one of the bedrooms and get that cleaned up, then I need to pull down the ceiling in that room. Should be fun.

If I can get the carpet out and cleaned up (nothing wrong with it, just dusty from storage) I'm going to look to sell it. It was a stop-gap solution to splinters in the floor, but now I'm most likely going to be replacing some or all of the floor anyway so don't need it any more. It's a nice piece - probably about 10x12 feet and bound all around. It's just that of all the rooms I can get it to without inordinate hassle one is mostly filled with a pile of insulation panels and one is mostly filled with a pile of laths. It will be good to get it cleaned off and out of the way.

That should be nice and warm for you :)

It's at 730 in the evening in July, so that will be interesting. Most of the races I have been in have always been in the morning.
There is an associated festival happening at the same time as well as a 10k and a half marathon.

Working outside on the house...my arms are so sore :( I need to really start lifting the dumbbells consistently to gain muscle again after my surgeries left me so pathetically weak.

I went for a walk in the woods despite the chance of rain showers. There were no rain showers although there were times when the sweat dripped off my hat and made me think it was starting to rain. It's the first time I've hiked up that hill in a few months, I forgot to each lunch before I went out and I wasn't very well hydrated. My body reminded me of all three of those things regularly.

I still got round in about the same time as usual but this time I had to stop and rest more often, including one rest break where I'd pushed hard enough I started to feel light headed. But a good slug of water with electrolytes and it was all good. The walk along the top and down again was nice and easy. It's good to get the hard part out of the way nice and early.

The sleep apnea treatment i have been getting has really helped me. I mowed the lawn after work today and had enough energy to go run for 40 minutes afterward. I literally have never done that before. Usually I am completely worn out by the time the lawn is done

Sitting drinking coffee. Got a conference call in half an hour.

Last night I shifted my computer stuff back to the study. I took it out while I tore down some walls in there but it turned out the work I'd hoped to do was far more complex than expected and I couldn't afford to have another room destroyed. So I cleaned it all up, and now the room is back in service even though two of the walls are stripped back to bare studs and the concrete block of the exterior wall is exposed. It's handy having stuff back in there, because that's where the air conditioner is.

Once my conference call is done I may go and do battle with radiators some more. I'm still cautiously optimistic that I can move the smaller radiators unaided but still have to disconnect them first.

My conference call went better than I expected. I had a nasty feeling something underhand was going on but it turns out everything seems above board. It sounds like it's going to land me a nice piece of work.

Waiting for a new mattress with adjustable base to be delivered today! I'm really excited about it. Because I still have hypo symptoms I get very cold at night and my husband is very hot and needs to have the ceiling fan on super high...so I just go into another room to sleep when we can't agree on room temp. The bed I've been in is a cheap one and the new one has a pillowtop. The adjustable frame was free so that's nice. The head can be elevated. Plus the salesman gave me an extra $110 off the sale price of the mattress! Maybe he saw my scars and felt sorry for me??? I'll take it.

Fairly lazy day today, went for a leisurely drive this afternoon. My wife got a new pair of sandals. Overall a fairly uneventful day.

Tomorrow I really need to get back to breaking my house.

Fighting With Pipes. My cast iron radiators have all sorts of connectors on them and I can't for the life of me figure out how to disconnect it all. So I've got my heating guy coming on Monday to show me what it's all about.

The pipes are a combination of copper, cast iron, and threaded something or other. I'm seriously considering the option of keeping the cast iron pipes to the radiators themselves, even if only for cosmetic purposes, and replacing everything with plastic piping under the floor. It will create more work to get it all done but will solve a few other issues along the way, which will be nice. I'll talk to my heating man about the merits of what I'm thinking. He's happy to give me pointers because he still does a fair bit of stuff for me, and he knows that if I run into troubles he gets the work to put it all back together again (and because he's a nice guy, of course!)
