Has there ever been a time where there was a misunderstanding about what you believe and what was the misunderstanding for instance:

Someone told me that most wars are started by religion which if you didn't know is completely wrong. Very few wars are religious and those that are tend to be less destructive.

Also someone told me that the bible has been changed so many time that we don't even know what was originally written. This is also false, not only do we have ancient writing that match current writing but we have a well known history of how the church worked hard to preserve the scriptures.

Today, many try to confuse the bible and beliefs

It seems that many think that salvation is independent of sin as opposed to sin being negated by salvation. Also seems that many think that GOD AND Jesus where always one and the same as opposed to father and son.

I think that many equate Christian morality with Christian faith.

I thought sin was something I committed. I learned sin was something I inherited.

LOTS and LOTS of times things get said (passionately often) that are flat out wrong.

I not only encounter misunderstandings about my religion but I am frequently told by people what I allegedly believe and even after pointing out that these alleged beliefs of mine are in fact not my beliefs I then get told that I am wrong and that I do in fact believe whatever my interlocutor alleges ....

It's one of the joys of being a Catholic among Protestants that one is regularly told what Catholics "really believe" by folk who have only a very tenuous grasp on what their own denomination teaches or what the creeds contain.

Nobody inherits sin; the idea is absurd. But people do inherit mortality and mortality is part of the curse that came upon the creation as a result of sins; specifically the sins of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. People also inherit a propensity to sin. That's explained in Romans chapter five.
Romans 5:12-21 KJV (12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (13) (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. (14) Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. (15) But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. (16) And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. (17) For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) (18) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. (19) For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (20) Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: (21) That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

A great many of my FB friends start off their statuses with false information. Drives me nuts. Sometimes I correct them and other times I shake my head. :grumble:

Definitely a bad habit developed by our inheritance.

I must confess that I am actually 158 years old. I didn't want to sound like I was bragging. :)
